The 20/50 i put in P/haze dont seem to make much diff....did it coz after a flush it started making a "knock knock" sound.(No not telling jokes!!) Never flushing an old engine again!!!

Re: What have you done for her/him recently?

The Princess is in the garage today for new driveshaft boots / bearings if required.

Next month I will replace rear shocks and service / replace brakes myself.

I am using Avanti Autos in Ipswich, there was a wonderful array of Fiats / Lancias in there including an old J reg 500 in bright yellow. Lovely car.

When Princess grows up she wants to be an Alfa Romeo or a Lancia...

Avanti Autos of Ipswich, recommended folks.

Re: What have you done for her/him recently?

Done a compleate engine and gearbox service on dad's Selecta. Changed spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, and the all important CVT oil in the gearbox (yes the £10 a Litre stuff ).

Only took 90 min, with taking our time in the basking heat. Only 21k on the clock and I noted that the haynes says the gearbox oil should be done every 27k (or 3 years) which I think it was probably done long over 3 years ago. lol.

What type of oil did you use? I heard that it must be special (like to Subaru itp) Have you changed CVT oil filter? I heard that it's difficult to get in UK...

It was the proper CVT oil (hard to get hold of if you don't know where from). Had it left over from when I broke the gearbox sump on my Selecta last year.

Filter should have been changed, and should be changed at same interval. Not done though for two reasons. Mainly cost. Fiat still supply the filter, at a cost of well over £100 +vat! Also involves removing sump and re-fitting which is a pain

So will do without a filter change. CVT oil removed was clean enough, but as I had some and had all the tools out, I thought it best to change it at the same time

Jon.

Re: What have you done for her/him recently?

My CVT oil looks OK in mine (right colour etc)...I've just asked about filter because as far as I know it was difficult to get it (and even in Poland cost about 50 pounds)...
...also it's very important to change in clean around area as any dust can brake CVT gearbox ...

Well I haven't recently enquired with Fiat, was 12 months ago, but easy enough to get back then (if you had the cash ).

Didn't know 'dust' per say could brake a CVT box. I know they can be very tempermental. I measured in the exact quantity of CVT oil! Not a drop more or less .

If your oil looks ok then its fair enough, if it starts looking burnt it needs changing ASAP as does filter. Thats mainly why I changed the oil. On basis that if oil is changed regular enough, filter can go longer

Changed the discs and pads on the CLX today, brakes are much better now. Also been to see a 4x4 locally that could be for sale that has been sitting for 6 years. Was pretty rotten though

Re: What have you done for her/him recently?

Busy old day, started with the oil pressure grief I've been having. To recap, my oil pressure light didn't work at all, then I fitted a new sensor which leaked an kept telling me my oil pressure was low, so I fitted a pressure guage...which leaked and kept telling me my oil pressure was low. So today we've had a capillary guage on to check and the oil pressure it turns out is fine. so we tried to fit a different electric guage...which leaked and didn't work at all so I gave up and fitted a spare standard oil pressure switch from the big box of stuff which finally now doesn't leak...or work
so, gave up on that. At least I know the pressure is actually OK and oil is no longer falling out the bottom.
So, next job on the list is to start on the new springs and shocks I've had lying for weeks. Lunch first then straight on with.....fitting a different Tacho I also found in the box of stuff and a voltmeter cos I didn't have the oil one any more and I liked having the extra bit hanging off the dash
Tada!

still needs tidying, the voltmeter is currenly mounted using the non approved method of a bit of tape
Tacho, too subtle???
anyway still time to do the rear springs so here goes:
urm, 'lowering' springs. Old ones seriously tatty though.
well whaddya know, some more metalworm seat's still sound though so should be OK. only one side wierdly
getting there.
new shockers on
et voila! erm, looks a bit high took him round the block and they settled pretty much where they were before thank goodness and what a difference!!! even with just the back done a lot of the knocks have gone and it rides way better
Good day.
Andrew.

Re: What have you done for her/him recently?

Looks like someone's been having fun

My update.

Installed the 3rd brake light in dads Selecta yesterday (the propper fiat one) and have started to re-install the alarm removed from his last wrecked Selecta and hope to have that finished off tomorrow

I've had a full set of new tyres fitted, old ones had obviously been on a while as they were getting pretty cracked. Should hopefully be plain sailing for the MOT next month, probably shouldn't say that actually
