Hi Guys,
I bought a complete set of locks for my panda, and cannot manage to remove the Ignition Barrel. Does anyone no how its done.
Thanks Malcolm

I can't remember specifically for a Panda, but for most Fiat steering/ignition lock barrels you need to have the key in the barrel and turned to the first position, then push a small screwdriver into the hole or gap in the side of the barrel housing. You can then pull the barrel out using the key.

There's a spring loaded catch that holds the barrel in but you can only press it when the key is in the lock and turned.

Dave.

I thought there was a way but have never managed it myself. Will try on the donor 750L (y)

Did you see the sprung loaded catch plate? Perhaps there's more than 1 hole and you're pressing in the wrong one. Or you could try the key in a (slightly) different position

As I remember, the barrel is a dark grey alloy whereas the catch plate is bright steel.

Did it work for anyone else?

Dave.

Hey Guys, I found some time yesterday to fit the barrel. I manage to remove it as described in your posting. Thanks all for your help. Finally I have all locks turn with ONE Key...yahooo:D

Hi there I wonder if anyone can help me out, changed all the door locks on my partner's panda (other half here!) but stumped with the ignition barrel.

She pointed me to this thread but don't see where you are supposed to place the screwdriver when the key is turned to the first position. Worse yet a chunk of the metal surround broke off when trying (don't worry I've been told off already!) but this has not caused any problem with using it.

Took a picture so someone can hopefully point me in the right way of getting this changed over! Annoying after getting the boot and two door locks changed over and even making a custom spring to replace one of the missing door springs.

Thanks for any help.

I will do I need to get some new photos next sunny day!

Will start a new thread soon an let you all know what the panda's been up to and the work thats been done to keep the wee 'beast' going :D.

Might need to remove the steering shroud as it was removed on the donor Panda when I removed ours. But before that, try shining a torch up the holes under the shroud incase it can be got to through those. I'll have a look at one of our Panda's with a shroud on tomorror for you (y)

Jon.

An old thread that wasn't complete.

Where is this elusive hole to shove a screwdriver in? I am wanting to replace my ignition barrel and have the cowling on. Would rather not remove the steering wheel to complete this task. Can it be done, perhaps with the dash fabric out the way- I can't feel or see where to poke?

Bump!

- just received the lock set from Italy,

do I have to remove the steering wheel to get the cowling off to change the barrel?

No probs to do the doors but how does the tailgate lock come off ( not looked yet )?

Any advice to save me mucking it up gratefullly received.

Ta.
