Grounded Selecta Gearbox sump = Leaking CVT oil and new sump needed

Grounded the Selecta the other day on a pot hole. Now have a massive dent in the gearbox sump and I'm loosing oil.

Does anyone know the best place to get a new sump from? I''m going to Fiat this afternoon to try and get a price and order one.

Only pain is I'm suppost to be clocking up 700 miles in the next week

Many thanks. Jon.

Came across this on ebay the other day, don't know if it's the right one.

Re: Grounded Selecta Gearbox sump = Leaking CVT oil and new sump needed

Hi, Thanks for all the replys.

Just been under and tightened the nuts to see if its leaking because its worked loose. I made sure I didn't over tighten them.

Leaking has slowed or stopped (might just be residue coming off still even though I wiped down area).

Drove to Tesco and got 1/4 and decided to stop, as there is a slight wining sound (Hydraulic pump?!?) when the car is above crawling speed. This also happens when revved in park or neutral.

Could this be because of a lack of fluid? I check it before going and it was all fine for a Cold engine and gearbox, car was last used 1100 this morning so was cold. But when check 1/4 from home was very low. So left car and walked home to have dinner and get funnels to top up fluid. Managed to get some CVT oil today. £9.38 for 1Litre!

I'm going to top up the oil and get a new sump and gasket to replace it but Fiat who for once are the cheapest are having to get it from Italy and are quoting 17th April delivery! Should the car be usable until then if the oil level is kept topped up? Its just I'm down to Sussex and back Twice next week.

Heres a few pics of damage.

That must have been one hell of a pothole. Bad luck.

i think you are going to have to take it off, then bash it out and weld it if its got hole in, or take it to a pannel beater and ask them to do it

I know. It didn't feel like that bad a pot hole when it happened, but enough to make me stop and look. But all seemed fine (didn't get on my knees because it was snowing). Then noticed the other day oils spots on the drive but assumed it was dads 1000cl leaking because it normally is his, and as the Panda's are always playing musical parking spots, I wrongly assumed.

Went to a Gearbox specialist 15 miles up the road. The good old school type and he suggested removing it and knocking the dent out if there isnt a hole in the sump, and putting it back on with a new gasket. So might do that but am tempted to get a spare before incase it splits when knocking it back out as the car won't be useable then.

Good new though. Topped up the CVT oil and the wining noise has stopped, so its now just the leak to sort. Might tighten sump more, but don't want to over tighten incase of damaging the treads. Is this easily possible?

Jon.

I'll keep it topped up for now then with the £10 a litre oil, and get it sorted when the sump I order from Fiat arrives then.

you can get it in 5ltr at a time cheaper, dont over fill that will cause worse problems

Yes, I'm going to get the 5L one tomorrow. O what damage can overfilling do (out of interest)?
