Apparently the wheels were on and off lots and at the time of photos they were on wrong. They have since been put on the right way round though, and he's uploaded fresh pics with them the right way.
 
Thanks for the compliments on the Panda turbo 130S i.e. It was real fun to fabricate it. I received an E-mail from FuzzyPanda’s Sam telling me my tires were the wrong way round and indeed they were at that time, sharp eyes! Due all the compliments I felt that I had to reply so below some “built notes”. On sarano.nl you soon can find more, I ‘ll try to update it more frequently. Have fun with your Panda’s!

The Uno engine is fitted with a Tipo gearbox, drive shafts are homemade like lot’s of other parts too. No more than 8 makes are represented in this Dutch Panda and lot’s of things are homemade.
Biggest problem was the driveline not fitting the engine bay, only after cutting out the right main chassis member and lot’s of the other side the whole thing just fits. Triangles in the inner wings re-enforce the loss of chassis together with a cross member between the struts. The Panda really needed that…. While I don’t like a sump too be to low to the road the engine is in line with the suspension meaning that at the top of the engine the hood didn’t fit anymore. Cutting out the inner frame of the hood saved some space but still it had to be raised a little. The gap is camouflaged by raising the grill and fitting body colored strips on headlights and wings as you can see on the website. A “power bulge” was required to fit the last 1cm inlet manifold.

Cooling and other parts had to be altered of cause. The radiator moved 8 cm forward meaning cutting the front member too. The fan is in the bumper with as a result you shouldn’t use the bumper as bumper anymore while the fan motor will crash into the radiator immediately. Alternator, gearshift etc. everything had to be redesigned.


The intercooler is fitted next to the engine while that looks great but it wouldn’t had fit anywhere else anyway. Air is coming in from the lower air-intake while the louver in the hood is right where the vacuum is, so that should help a little. The other smaller louver is the air-intake of the engine and that’s placed in a pressure zone.

Disc brakes are taken from a Multipla (still 4-holes) and are a lovely size 285mm, which looks real strange on a Panda! Spare wheel became useless while only 15” rims will fit the brakes. Anti-roll bar is from an Ypsilon.

The 50mm exhaust is home made again, it uses 1 cat and 1 silencer, thanks to the turbo it’s a quit Panda. It’s sticking out through the bumper while that was an easier fit and it looks nice I think.

Lot’s of other stuff (dash etc..) where modified or homemade, it’s quit a list. Still it was fun to do. Driving is fun too but you have to be careful: it has a mind of it’s own with the waste gate shut, you never sure what direction your going. Especially hooligans in Gti’s with big wings and fat exhausts are its specialty….good fun!

absolutely amazing, some nice work there, and i have exactly the same wheels(in black) and tyres and mine handles so much better than standard.
you say the brakes are multipla, is that the calipers as well and are they easy to fit?? and are they much of an improvement over standard??

The discs are Multipla and fit like a gloove, the callipers are Alfa 164 but perhaps Multipla callipers will fit too. You need a welding machine anyway...

The main cylinder should be bigger too.

Braking from 170km/h to 0 (a few times) is not what a Panda is used to, so yes the difference is serious!

I'm interested in what work has gone on to the suspension. People generally avoid the Uno Turbo engine conversion simply on a weight basis, it being heavier than engines in the FIRE family. Thus, the oreferred upgrade is a 1242 or a 1368 16v FIRE engine (though there's still only a handful of conversions). Given that the Panda already has a nose-led balance as standard, how does it cope with the extra weight up front? The wider wheel/tyre combination will help, but I'd be interested to see if you've taken any other measures to combat understeer.

My mates keep telling me to fit an Uno turbo engine to my Panda. I think that confirms that the skills required are beyond my abilities!
In any case I would want to keep my 4x4 drive and as I understand an uno turbo engine wouldn't fit the gearbox.

However it leads me to ponder....
Has any one fitted a turbo to a FIRE engine, how do you think it would cope?

Yes, Van Aaken did a commercially available turbo conversion for the 1108cc FIRE engine in the Cinquecento Sporting. Quite a few people have made their own home built turbo FIRE engines as well. They are generally ok but some people have had a lot of issues - mainly over fuelling and head gaskets. Have a look in the Cinqecento section as there's plenty of information in there regarding turbo FIRE conversion.

And it's not a good idea to attempt to fit a Uno Turbo engine to a 4x4 Panda gearbox. Asides from needing a modified bellhousing the 4x4 drivetrain is not designed to cope with the massive torque and power increases that will come with a UT engine. If you could fit one to a 4x4 it would simply tear the drivetrain apart :eek:
 
Hi all

Just joined the forum but have been on the Y10 Turbo Forum for a couple of years. Currently converting a Lancia Y10 from 999cc fire to 1242 mpi turbo.

Did look at a number of different engine options from bike to vtec to ecotec and ended up opting for the easier life with a fire engine.

Engine currently in bits but looking to get finished for the summer.

The Y10 has been off the road since 1999 so needs more than a new engine. The original gearbox is no good so have been looking at some options. Will the 999cc gearbox fit the 1242cc engine? If it does, is anyone selling one?
