FIAT PANDA SISLEY 999ccFIRE

Well the story starts in December when I parked my Panda up round the back of our house for the winter, I covered it over (naturely) and waited for the spring.
Well about a month and a bit ago I uncovered it and opened it up checked the oil, petrol and ... water ... eh! No water so i fill the water up and yes you've probably guessed it ... the water came straight out the back of the engine just below the intake manifold/carb.
Its the core plug!

As I discovered when water freezes it expands and can put a hairline crack the head, so this core plug pops out to release the pressure and stop the head cracking. Hairline cracks can cause pressursing in the cooling system and water to leak.
I knew this but ... eh ... forgot at the time! (SLAPS HIMSELF)

Anyway the plug has disappeared so I don't know what size it is to get a replacement.

Does anybody know the size/fiat code/part no#/etc of a core plug.

If I well understood you're looking for the thing we call "fusion plug", as it needs to close the hole resulting of the block production process...btw it should have a part number!

Do I turn fast enough!?

Erm, I don't know off the top of my head, but I'll be able to let you know tomorrow :I

Sixwheeledbeast - please can you PM me your VIN?

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMM, don't know......but.........are you selling it.....???????????...........just a thought................

HHmmmmmmm

I have been reassured it's definatly a core plug!
Or that's what we call it anyway, it's a feature built into the cooling system designed to do this.
The plug looks like a metal dome thing with a lip on the edge.

It turns out I found one at home in a bag full different sizes!

It will fit suggly, and with a bit of silicon on it before I fit it, my panda will be fixed.

Yes, I have heard of anti-freeze; but when i drained the coolant in the summer for some reason [?], I replaced it with water!

Thanks for all the help anyway, i'll get round to doing it when my eyes better, long story, B) internal briusing of the iris! Ouch!

Oh and pandafan if you are on about selling my Sisley, you must be having a laugh.

Ahhh, c'mon sixwheel.............It was worth a try !

When a core-plug of mine rotted through I araldited a penny over the hole and it lasted well over 6 years.............

Keep on keepin' on.......and should you ever want to scrap it .............?

HHmmmmmmm

If i have 2 scrap it (this will not happen for a long long while) ill be mounting the rust in the garden, in the corner, by the trees. lol.

You do right my friend....

We've just had to part with Sandra's (my wife's) 'Dog Box' 4x4 after 6 years. Even though I stripped it of everything, it was still sad to see it go; however the new 'Panda Panda' 4x4 I've built to replace it uses 50% of it's bits, so>>>>>>>>>>>the King is dead, long live the King, an' all that.

Just give your beast a decent resting place; maybe a few chickens.........and a rose bush.........ah.

HHmmmmmmm

Thanks i will,
Just out of interest i think i heard you have a Sisley like mine, what colour is it iam thinking of painting mine it's a funny met turquiose but it going a bit thin in places. It was accident damaged when i bought it, we repaired it (o/s/f) and welded the front. So it can do with a paint in and out.

Hi Sixwheeledbeast,

The new project is classed in it's logbook as 'red', but it is a sort of metalic burgundy in reallity. I have to rebuild the door bottoms and o/s/r w/arch and so am busilly trying to find the colour reference.........do yo want me to look for yours whilst I'm at it ?
