Does anybody out there know whether the re-inforced glass used in vehicular side-windows can be cut or have holes drilled through it ?
Please help ... I have a need :)

Hellcat, Probably. I think that, apart from the windscreen, the glass is to the same spec. all round.

the from glass is rein forced and stays together when broken,
ALL other glass is the stuff that smashes into tiny little cubes and goes abolutley everywhere.

im not to sure about drilling.
you could do with a test piece, hehe

a few layers of celotape help alot when drilling perspex.
but this is glass

whats it for ??? im very intrigued

I reckon you could drill/cut it but you'd have to take it to a glass shop... it's a slow process that stuff...

We've bought a Seat Terra Chairman for the time being to transport the dogs around; until the right 4x4 Panda comes along.
Sandra wants mirrors that can be adjusted from inside, so I've fitted a pair of Panda doors temporarily. However, the Seat doors are rust-free and I'd ideally like to drill through the quarterlights to fit Panda mirrors to it.

Trying a test drill is a good idea ... I've got loads of spare side windows.

Thank you all. (y)

Legaly wing mirrors are not allowed in front of the quarterlight rear bars(n) however mk 1 panda S's were fitted with internal adjust mirrors (y) just need to find some

You learn something new everyday !:D
I had no idea of that particular bit of law ... and I bet the average policeman hasn't either.
I might then consider blanking off the quarterlights and fitting the mirrors in the entire space, but that will hinder all-round visability a little.

I only want to make my wife happy ... and I'm too tired for sex :(

It's a long time since I've drilled a hole in glass, and I've never tried on "car" glass.

It's a slow process, if you don't want it to break - low speed and gentle pressure too.

The bit drill I used is shaped rather like the "spades" shape in a deck of cards, and you need to use a bit of water to cool/lubricate the cutting edge

There's a picture here http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axminster-Glass-Tile-Drill-Bit-Set-22159.htm

I'll take it that the Mk2 panda one peice window (and frame) won't fit the Seat door?

Just a thougth?

You want to tell that to Renault or Ford?

Yes they do ... and that's what I've fitted.
However, Fiat doors are ungalvanised and rot; whereas Seat doors are galvanised and don't.

hi there,
tempered glass contains a load of internal stress, i think if you try and drill, it will become unstable or completely shatter.

That is right. You cannot cut or drill tempered/toughened glass. It will shatter. Tempering is always done after the glass has been cut, drilled and shaped.

You can cut laminated glass (most windscreeens) but it is quite tricky.

Thank you all most kindly:)

I shall leave well alone and leave the old Panda doors on the Seat, then transfer all of the trim over to make it match.
