Fitting new inner driveshaft gaiter not going to plan :bang: :bang:
Nut on ball joint has sheared clean off...
Rang round for a ball joint - could've got one but shop was just closing...

...just looked in Manual (Haynes) which says that Hub carrier ass. must be renewed complete if ball joint worn. Has anyone done a ball joint?
Seem to remember that Uno lower wishbone ball joint wasn't too difficult and that they advised a new arm for that.... is it poss. to press out old with just a vice?

:) yes it is if you have a big strong vice, and I do mean strong and a good old socket to press the old one out(y)

Makes the job even easier if you can get a ball joint splitter, you'll have it apart in no time, ive done a few ball joints, quite an easy job, and only broke one nail !(y)

Yeah, can see now - like old Uno ball joint with circlip round (couldn't see that for gunge earlier) - got it out of hub carrier ok :)
with the shape of the hub carrier it won't be poss. to press it in but it'll pull in from the outside with some spacers (haven't got a socket big enough...) hopefully...
think I panicked a bit earlier...
I must say I don't like splitters as they usually damage the rubber dust cover - I use bar and hammer on side of joint - no probs there!

Had to put old bearing back in drive shaft boot though as one supplied was too big (and knacked as someone's tried fitting it before! - incorrectly as well - I should have checked it in the shop...) good job my old one was ok

Back's bad now though argh... and no car for tomorrow :(
 ...there's a perfectly good Panda parked in front of it... why don't I ever learn!
still, drive shaft's ok now - just need that ball joint tomorrow... :slayer:

Kool glad youre sorted ! Nothing like grovelling around doing suspension work, almost a garuntee that you'll put your back out ! Panda's you gotta' love em !

Got sorted in the end... phew. Can't recommend pulling the balljoint in though - took forever. I think my 4" vice would've done it if I'd been better prepared with a couple of pieces of ready-cut tube. A 'how to' would be good for this job... fo'sure. Back's recovering...
Nice driving that babe about with the sunroof fwd today... he he... :)
although the speedo's packed up now... I noticed doing the gaiter that the drive gear (steel threaded part that holds the nylon drive gear and is held in with 5mm grub screw) is solid in the final drive - any tips on freeing it anyone?
I've a feeling that the nylon gear will be sheared...(?) :(
ps How do I get a flag???

Never seen a grub screw in the speedo cable ends Mick ?

BTW just as an add on you don't need to remove the bottom ball joint to get the drive shaft out, you can remove the two strut bolts & the link arm bolt & pull the pillar downwards whilst removing the driveshaft.

That's because there isn't one in the speedo cable ends!
What I've described as a grub screw holds the steel part that houses the speedo nylon drive gear into the final drive housing - you can't remove the nylon gear without first removing this Alan. I did this on the the 1st Panda after towing it back from 'darn sarf' yr before last - with no oil in the transmission the nylon speedo drive gear sort of melted and sheared (er... never thought to check gearbox for oil...) - will do in future as when towing all this spins around...

I'm thinking that the 'new' Panda has seen a lot of 'wet' in it's life what with the ball joint shearing clean off and the speedo drive housing being solid an' all (dissimilar metals as well where steel meets ally)
When I did the inner gaiter on the other Panda the balljoint came apart easily... but if I'd done it your way Alan I'd have had one job less for sure... (y)
I should've sorted the oil leaks before sending mi tax disc back and transferring the insurance... but that sunroof just held sway... ha ha

This is the screw Alan.

Never seen that bit Mick so couldn't advise sorry. However go into users CP then edit profile, at the bottom of the page is additional options and a browser box for what country you live in. Select a country and then save the profile and you should have your flag.

Sorry about the bum stear I thought it was on the map

I give up... stuck pin in members map many times etc etc... I'm doing something wrong... again... :p

I think it's done in the User CP (User control panel option). Click that link, then click on 'edit profile'. Scroll down to 'Country where I live' and select appropriate country.

Maybe that will give you a flag? I did mine so long ago I completely forgot

EDIT: Argh! Should check all posts first :bang: Alan beat me to it!

Hooray, I've got a flag (y)
...and also just discovered the Ducato thread :worship:
- that's well worth some raffle tickets Alan - how many you want me to buy? didn't get the significance of your post yesterday...
How long's the Fiat commercial section been on - wasn't there when I 1st joined was it?
thanks fellas :)
