I have a 2006 Siena 2, 1.7TD. A week ago, the car would not go into reverse or fifth gear. A million things went through my mind.

Back to basics, I thought let's start at one point and work through everything until we find the problem.

Not long into the search l found the problem

It seemed like an easy fix. Go to the agents, get the part and replace it. Not so simple. The agents (all of them) told me that their factory is out of stock. I searched high-and-low at other parts suppliers, but in vain

This is a picture I found on the net of the part I was looking for. Using up about 500mb of data and making 46 phone calls, I eventually found this one...

It was from a Strada TD, which in theory will fit like a glove. I had to take the whole unit, linkages and all. There was one problem...

... it too had a crack. And I was told by people afterwards that it is a problem with the Sienas and Palios.

So I returned home and had to figure something out. I am sitting with a perfect car which can't engage 5th and reverse.

My buddy down the road was called in to assist. I suggested that we make a bracket to fit over the bush, so that it can hold down the bush to enable smooth operation and shifting.

The bracket/plate would fit right over the bush/bolt in the picture above.

I took the car to him 1st through to 4th all the way, making sure I nurse her and don't damage anything.

A day later and after Henry waived his magic wand, I fetched her with a bracket installed and shifting seamlessly through her gears.

A simple stainless steel plate, with a turned bend holds the bush down now. There is no movement, as if the original housing/bracket would have kept it in place. The difference now is that the bracket will last for ever.

Thank you Henry for helping me and saving me a lot of money!!

Henry has done a fine job there. Thanks for the photos it's always nice to see a great simple solution to a problem.

Here is the link to the YouTube video... hope it will help someone that has the same problem.

Well, I didn't sold it...( I have to many parts to remember them all, I'm afraid...)
So here are some pictures, and the part number: 7085737.
