hi,

can anyone tell me if a spark plug removed from my fiat palio 1.2 8v normal if the flint part is slit down the middle?

Not sure which bit you mean by the 'flint part'.

In the past some plugs have been manufactured with a Y-shaped earth electrode.

1. Pop a pic on here so we can see.

2. have a look at the plug manufacturer's web site for details of that plug part number.

3. How does it compare with the others? If they are not split, are they the same part number or different. If they're the same, the split one is broken. If you have one odd one, replace all four anyway.

hi,

i am referring to the center part that causes the spark,
i have removed the old spark plugs before and they did not have this split,
the new plugs before being fitted on did not have this split on it,

many thanks...

I've seen these before. I think they were like this when you put them in. I can't remember what manufacturer produced these, (and you've not shown enough to see the name on the plug) but the idea was for longer life and a better spark by evening out the wear to the tip. I doubt it makes any measurable difference.

You pic does not look like a plug taken out of an engine, it looks new.
The pic is a short reach thread. My 1.2 8v uses longer plugs. Are you sure you have the right ones? If you use short plugs when you need long ones, performance will be poorer, part of the cylinder head near the plug hole will run at the wrong temp, the un-used threads will get contaminated with carbon making it difficult to fit correct ones later.

See this: https://www.ngk.de/nc/en/product-finder/produktfinder/PKW/ZK_BENZINER/FIAT/PALIO/BKR5EZ/4307/
It looks like the NGK may well be the split electrode, but the key point there is the thread length.

hi,

which NGK plug should i ask for and is there a particular type of plug that needs to go there?

As said if in doubt fit four new plugs. Parts shop or where ever you purchase these will be able to supply the correct spark plugs.

Don't be mesmerised by exotic metal jobbies or the like, not worth the money, standard spark plugs will be fine.

You need to help yourself a little more here. So far, you've posted just a little information and are hoping we have the answers.

Most of the Forum members are located in the UK, where we do not get the Palio. The only information you have given of the engine is "1.2 8v". As Fiat in the UK do not have a large variety of engines, we assume it is a 1.2 Fire 8v, similar spec to those we have in Panda and Punto. Our engines use a long reach plug.

The NGK catalogue from the link in my previous post takes you to their catalogue. Have a look and see if you can identify your car/engine.

Any local parts supplier should have a similar listing and be able to identify the correct plugs, especially if the vehicle is popular in your area.

The plug you showed us does not appear to have been used, which conflicts with your earlier information. This is not helpful. What exactly did you take out?

To help further, we need answers not questions.
