General noise coming from gearbox

Good Day

I have a Fiat Palio 1.6 16 valve 2000 model when the car idle there is a rumbling noise coming from the gear box but when I engage the clutch pedal the noise is gone , can someone please assist me with can be the problem here

Welcome here.
It's probably not the gearbox, but the clutch, some play due to age/worn parts often causes this.
Some Fiat's are notorious for this, although I haven't heard it from the WCP 178 ( Palio) range before.
Does it makes similar noise(s) when driving?
Does it shifts normal?

Thanks for the response , yes it does the same noise when driving the noise only disappear when clutch is engaged, even when the car idle in neutral

I drove my former Fiat Fiorino Pick-Up for more than 10 years with a noisy clutch mechanism.
Even after changing the clutch, the ratling sound (when idling...) came back soon.
I wish I had known this Valeo service bulletin than...

Hi Peter

Took the cat to the mechanic and he advised that he gearbox is dry and he filled the gearbox with 1 litre gear oil , the noise was gone for a while only to notice that all the gearbox is now leaking and the noise is back

Probably a leaking shaft seal, have it fixed asap, don't drive the car with no gear oil....!!!
