Hi Everyone,

I have a 2005 Palio ELX 16V,160000kms

When I arrived home the other evening from my moms house I noticed that my car has started smoking terribly, unmistakeably from oil being burned(blue smoke that smells like an old 2stroke just started up).It does not smoke at all when cold and does not even smoke by the time I get to work (about 5kms down the road). But if I go home, and stop by the shops and garage etc ( enough to warm up the engine sufficiently) it starts smoking

Smoke has never been a problem on my car before now and I always change my oil way before its due because I drive short distances to work and back,it does seem to use a bit of oil (a pint in 2000kms) but i have never considered that much of a problem.

My last oil change was about 3000kms ago,and the head was serviced about 15000kms back when my cam tensioner broke off(for the third time since ive had the car!).

My first feeling is that one of the valvestem seals have worn or shifted, because it started suddenly(that i know of,but dont think i would have missed that smell in the long term). What do you guys think?

I dont want to spend lots of money on the car as I want to sell it in September due to its unreliability(as previously mentioned with the tensioner issue),but wont be able to sell it if it smokes like an old CR500!

Any advice on this issue?anyone have a similar experience?

Ok,

That was pretty much what I had in mind.

Thought there may be a usual suspect

Thanks Lots.

My car suddenly stopped smoking, and has not restarted after about a week and I took it on a reasonably long drive just to be sure.

I guess it may have been a valvestem with some gunk on or a stemseal that was just a bit unseated.

It may also have been oil contaminated petrol?I cant recall that the smoking spanned more than one fill up and we do have some questionable petrol stations in my area...

Point of order will still be an engine flush and minor service, but thanks for the help

Kind Regards
Courtney Johnson

That's the purpose of the Forum!
Happy driving, and keep an eye on the engine the next weeks, check oil and water level more often than you used to do.
If all keeps stabil/normal, you can be assured that it was the fuel.( and never use that brand again....)

:D
