when the car idle it runs smooth and quiet but when i rev it there is a loud knock comming from the head cylinder area. I have taken the head off did not touch the cam. it still looks good. What could be making this noise.

Noise is very difficult to Judge from a distance, I'm afraid.
How is valve clearance?
If the 1,2 engine is equipped with hydraulic lifters, one may have gone bad.
