Hi All.

Is there any way to reduce the power steering on a Palio.
The steering is way to sensetive to my like and the car feels a bit loose on the road.
Also what in the recomended amound of free play on the steering wheel, and should there be any diffrence in free play from when the engine is running or when the engine is off.

Thanks in advance for any help

What engine, and what modelyear?

Imo, the powersteering on the Palio Mk1 is just fine, by no means to heavy or anything.
The Mk1 is very sensitive for a correct wheel alignment though, so maybe worth checking that.

Itd the 1.2 el 2002 had the wheel aliment and weels balanced this morning, in the last month iv done some thing on the car. Replaced all the belts, oil seals in crank rear and front, cam seal. New clutch. New clutch cylinder master and slave, new brake pads front and caliper recon, back brakes new shoes and drum and new wheel cylinders, front wheel bearings, iner and outer cv replaced, new ball joints and tie rod ends new shocks all round and new shock mounts. And im running on 175/70/13 fron continental tyres

Have you tried different tyre pressures..??

Did try it aswell, its mostly when you shift gears, that it sways side ways mostly to the right.
But now all off a suden ive got scratching gears on 3rd and 5th and a strange sound shuter sound on the gearbox, what is the possiblity that all of the problems are related to a bad engine or grearbox mounts.

Okay, so i found my rattle noise on the gearbox, i have not a single drop of oil in the box drain plug mysteriously disapeared funny thing is there is no sighn of a oil run or something like that to show its been leaking or fell out while driving, bought a new plug from fiat, filled it up and took a drive doesnt seem to be dammage done to the box drained the oil again to check for any metal filings or anything and nothing, filled up with fresh 75W90. went quite now and smooth, reduced the tenstion on the power steering belt, doesnt seem to oversteer now, but it still sways side ways when im shifting and if im accelerating fast or stop sudenly then there is that shuter noise and it sways, checked the mounting and the back one is bad , so i ordered new ones replacing all 3 of them, picking it up tomorow from fiat then ill see what happens, im still puzzled by my gearbox plug that dissapeared like that.

Peter History, not sure what you want to know as owned it now for 10/11 years, bought it with 900km on the klock from a insurance salvage yard for like next to nothing as it was in a smash from the right back side and i fixed it up and its been going ever since except when my wife drove it over the pavement a few years back even before i got married to her, the car has done just over 620K km now, never opened up the engen to do any internals or the head, worked on the gearbox once repleced the clutch now last mont for the 3rd time and a couple of small thing here and then, over all and all she has been thru hell and back with me hand she always behaved like a princes even though i call the car " my grys bitch" she never onced let me down badly, i service her every 12 to 15K km oil change and fillter every 5000 km, new coolant and brakefluid end power steering fluid every year..

will keep you up to date what happens after i change the mounts.

thanks for your input

620 000 km DEAD Serious.

It started sometime in last week, the car was standing at home for about 2 weak as i was away from home on bussiness. i got home got in the car on to the freeway to go and see a friend and it starded with this dancing across the road tango its doing now.

and now im left driving with my wifes ford fiesta wich i hate like theres no tomorow.

Well, that must be (one of) the highest mileage Palio's in the world for sure....!!
A lot can go bad after so many km's.
What is the opinion of the workshop that did the alignment?
They should have the knowledge to solve any roadholding problems.

Btw, make a picture of the odometer, and post it in "Members Motors" section on this Forum.
I think many here will be amazed...!!

I am already amazed reading the number 620k.
Thats a feat I should say for a palio. In india, people will not even believe to it :)
