Good day all

I am at wits end with my car. Last year the timing belt snapped and as a result I broke off 8 valves and 8 were bent. After having it fixed by a private mechanic,
the car stalls when I apply brakes. Furthermore it overheats very quickly. The mechanic doesn't have the answer. Also, the brakes are very faint. I need an answer or merely clues to what it may be. The fan does come on when the motor goes past optimal temp but it still heats up.

Thank you in advance.

It's a 2001 model. See I did go to Fiat Westrand, and they told me they do not work on Fiats that old. Fiat, not working on Fiats. What does that say about the car then? Anyway, we came across another problem. the oil light comes on once optimal temp is reached. Faulty oil pump maybe?

Find another dedicated workshop!
2001 isn't old at all, and Palio's are designed for easy maintainance....!!

Very true what Peter says

Find another workshop which is good at its work

Not so long ago I almost sold my Siena due to niggling electrical issues like non working power windows, lights and central locking

Shifted my workshop and came to know it was just due to a bad relay

I can understand that find a good workshop not easy. You have to give your car to a workshop to come to know if they good work or not and many times your car can get screwed

But deal with them carefully and zero in a good workshop

Become a member of a local automotive blog or forum. Over here in India we have team-bhp and palio users yahoo group. from there I got the lead of the workshop I am taking my car to

Have you solved any of the issues yet? Was the car OK before the cambelt snapped? If so it looks like the original fix induced the faults. Seems like there is more than one issue. Take them one at a time. First check all the vacuum leads, then release the handbrake, pump the brake pedal a few times and keep the pressure on. Start the engine, the pedal will drop a few cms. This will test the vacuum and servo. Should help with the stalling and braking.
