Hi there

I replaced the cam belt on my palio 1.6 16v weekender el about 1000km's ago. since replacing it.........its been making this wining noise thats going higher and lower with revs...sounds like a truck turbo

i have checked the tension...made is slacker made it tighter etc but no effect...but heres where it gets weird.... when i push the cambelt to the inner side with a candle stick the noice dissapears. i discovered the noise comming from below....between the crank pulley and the oil pump pulley....when i touch it there with candle stick the belt is quite

am i missing something....new belt and tensioner was fitted .....there is no slackness that i can see in belt or feel.

Any help would be appreciated......i thought that the sound would have dissapeared by now....

Thanks

Hi,
I'm not too familiar with your engine's layout,
BUT - are you physically pushing the belt SIDEWAYS to make it quieter..?, or pushing the belt HARDER into the gearwheel / sprocket ( tighter tension),

1, if it's the belt sideways = it's rubbing the belts outer side on something..!!

2,
if you are adding tension , = it could be a bearing withing the oil-pump , crankshaft area that is failing,

are you 100% sure you've not put someting back together in the wrong place..??,
common failing on the lower pulley ( onto crankshaft),

let us know what you find,
Charlie

Hi guys

I mean im pushing the belt side ways...towards the valves if i can say it like this.....
Then the wining stops...... it looks like the belt is rubbing onto the crank pully.....i only replaced the tensioner pully ,,,but it looks like belt is running towards outer side , not in the middle of sprockets.....

When i have time i will take belt off and turn the other way around....

Tension on belt is tight...as per instructions when fitted.....if im going to slack it more its going to be more loose around sprockets and pullies...

Hi there

i have replaced the belt and all new tensioners and bearing rollers.........

Still the same.....put belt on tension where it should be. the noise is comming from the belt between the crank pulley and oil pump pully.....when you look at it, it looks like the belt vibrates between the said pulley. Cause when i placed a bearing roller under the belt there the noise stops and sounds great.....now because of this vibration it sounds like something is loose in engine :yuck: press the roller under belt and its quiet ...... could it be that the belt is not correct size ................what am i missing here..... all the spare shops said the belt is correct size for 1.6 16v engine.

I cant tension it more than it is.....cant slack it more ,,,,,,,

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem - in my case if you spray a little belt dressing on the cam belt the noise goes away for a while

The belt was done by fiat and their explanation was its the rubber compound in the belt

Please let me know if you solved the problem

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Andrew

No Still the same.... there's must be something we miss here.....Does anybody know if these cars have vibration dampeners anywhere?

Hi Leon
Hid you manage to find out what was causing this noise on your fiat. My daughter has the same problem.

Also can you send me the timing marks you found I would like to keep on record just in case I need to change or remove the belt .

email [email protected]

kind regards
Garry
