The ciggy lighter illumination was working till last week - didn't pay attention to the illumination till yesterday when i found that it is not lighting up.

The ciggy lighter works - the fuse for clock illumination / rear right tail lights / left number plate light is fine since all of them works except the ciggy lighter illumination.

I guess it is either the bulb that is not working or a poor connection.

Any idea how difficult is it to pull out the lighter unit to gain access to the bulb / wires? I hope that the entire panel need not be taken out.

Any help will be great. Searched the FF under other makes which points to poor connection / bulb - but it is not mentioned how easy is it to pull it out?

Take care and drive safe :)

Peter,

Yes i do smoke. I rarely use the car lighter - so didn't pay attention to the illumination :p

Now that i find it is not working - it is bothering me a lot.

Best way to stop smoking: start running, and set yourself a goal, like running the marathon within a year.
In 1992, I ran the New York City Marathon in 4.17, despite a bad knee (motorcycle accident) and asthma... ( I was 32 yrs.)
I trained myself for a year, ran several half marathons, and had the time of my life in New York...!!
(Btw,After New York, I never ran again.....!! I reached my goal).

Thanks for the advice Pete :) But do you think that if i stop smoking, start running, participate in a marathon will help in solving this: "Cigar Lighter Illumination - not working"

I have a better idea - i will try to do it by myself :)

Thanks again Peter

The car's ECU has detected you're trying to give up smoking and activated the cigar lighter decommisioning algorithm. If you try and abort it, the alternator catches fire.

:)

cigar lighter lamps are easy to change but you need access to the rear of the panel.

Oh come on!

Thanks Mozarella :)

It is still the same - haven't touched the 'CLI' since i started the thread - but i am definitely not signing up for the marathon :D

Haha funny thread :D

1)Yes you need to stop smoking, it kills you !

2)I had the same problem my cig lighter illumination was burnt out, i'll try to explain as much as I can, it's a fairly simple straight forward task

There are two ways you can do it, the right way, and the wrong way

I'll explain the right way first(Removing the Console):

1-You need to remove the console around the shifter
2-To do so , remove 2 Screws (One on each side) of the console
3-Pull off the leather around the shifter (It just clicks out)
4-there is a piece of plastic covering another screw at the end of the console (Right under the hand brake), pop it out, and remove the screw below
5-You'll find the only thing attached to the cig lighter is the power plug, just pull it off

6-Now your console should come off easily (Make sure both chairs are as far back as possible)

7-The bulb is really really small, you'll just need to pull it off and replace with a new one !(see it here)

8-Put everything back again together, and enjoy :D

The second way (Dangerous way):

1-Without removing the console, Pull the lighter as hard as you can till it comes out, you might break something (Be warned) haha
2-and change the bulb and push the lighter assembly back in !!

hope it's been helpful !

let us know how it went !
