Technical FIAT PETRA (SIENA) 1.6 Petrol maintaince advise

I just wondered if they used original Fiat o- rings and seal?
Some time ago I tried to split a Harrison compressor of an American V-8, but we gave up, we couldn't do it.
I ended up, buying a reconditioned compressor....!
It sure is a technician with good skills and A/C knowledge to have repaired your compressor!

That I also have my doubts on but unless and until its working I should not be complaining and plus if the compressor fails within 6 months he will not charge me anything to do it again

About the technician, it sure was some specialist because the work was outsourced. The garage owner had told me before proceeding with the work that they will give the compressor for overhaul to an outside person who is a specialist .

Infact Peter, even the car alternator when it stopped working was completely overhauled by a guy who is specialist in working on alternators and starters. It costed me much less then the price of a new alternator and its working flawlessly since past 3 years

The only reason why I wonder if original Fiat parts were used, is that if indeed Fiat parts were used, you could ask for part numbers and share it with us...!
I'm sure the work was done OK...!!

I have high doubts myself about OE fiat parts being used. After all this is not an authorized service centre
And secondly such small parts (rubber rings of the compressor) would be really really difficult to source

Anybody needing the parts I can talk to the garage and source it for anyone needing it. Courier charges would be hardly anything as it wont be even weighing 100 grams

Peter, one more thing I wanted to know is what is the function of O2 sensors after the cat con? Do they need to be replaced?

One Palio user from India has suggested me to change the O2sensor (the one that goes into the manifold) as i am not getting good fuel efficiency

He says that a slightly misbehaving O2 sensor wont shop an error in ECU examiner

Can you confirm if this is the exact O2 sensor which i need to change as i need to order it online

http://www.99rpm.com/replacements/bosch-lambda-control-sensor-0258-006-193-000.html?SID=9371d34ef946ccd04f6455dc36f5d5bb

Have placed an order for O2 sensor, Bosch brake pads and new wiper blades with 99rpm.com

O2 sensor will take around 7 days to reach me

If fuel efficiency actually improves from what i get currently the cost of 02 sensor would be recovered within a months useage

Currently i get around 8.5 to 9 kmpl in city but with no traffic at all

With AC and moderate traffic around 6.5 kmpl

Ordered Bosch brake pads and will install it if the squeaking noise does not stop with the current brake pads

As rainy season would start soon thought of also ordering new wiper blades :)

Will update after new O2 sensor in installed

Bosch is an excellent choice, quality parts.
Fiat recommends to change the O2 sensor(s) on the Palio every 100.000-120.000 km's.

My car has not done such kms but its 9 years old, so i suspect i will benifit with an O2 sensor change
Plus the kind of mileage i am getting warrants me to look into the matter.

First rains of the monsoon seasons and I was 40 kms away from my home. The wipers stopped working suddenly. :(

Checked the fuse which was fine so i suspect the wiper motor has gone bad

Are you sure about that fuse?
They may look OK, but still be bad...!
Change it and see if it helps.
There is a relay as well, check that too.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the tip about the relay and the fuse. Will get the car inspected by an electrician tomorrow. He will do a step by step check. I just hope it's a bad relay or fuse

Peter
Can you help me with the location of the wiper motor relay

Update

Early morning I went to check the fuse of the wiper motor. I tried to switch on the wipers to see what happens and I could hear a like a blender. So the motor works but somehow wipers dont move

One of the linkage arm was broken and one more small arm in between two linkage arm was also fully rusted

Sadly the linkage arms are not sold separately and sold as set with the wiper motor which was costing a whopping $120

Luckily I got from the used market (the guy one last piece left) which luckily worked. He also had a MAGNET MARELLI motor but I thought its better to keep the old motor as its working fine

Lets hope there are no other issues with the wipers till the monsoon season is there

Again a big thanks to Peter, Surya and Fiatforum

The best part was that this mechanic had his Worksop inside a fiat Palio gets 1.6. One guy did not pay him up for repair bills and did not bother to collect the car. He waited for him for a year and then decided to use the car to store his tools :p

Don't know why some people don't understand the value of a Palio. At least he could have sold the car to someone who would have used it

In the Netherlands, where I live, between 1996 and 2002, a total of about 3500 Palio Weekends Mk1 were sold.
Today, about half of them survive, the rest ended up in the junkyard and/or shredder.
It was/is a very underrated car overhere.
Fiat had high expectations about the World Car Project Palio/Sienna range, but it only was a success in Brazil...( still is)
