Hi Peter
Finally got a Fiat dealer who will do the belt change in my car. All the belts with all associated bearings
They have ordered the parts and will let me know once they have them
One thing they have mentioned in the estimate is a "Strator Bearing"
I really don't have any idea where it is used. When I asked about it to the service advisor, he said its associated with the alternator belt
Can you throw some light on it

Hope your car is doing fine

Peter, unfortunately they dont mention any part number. They just wrote the name of the part in the estimate
Part number I will only know when i go to give my car and see the parts myself

You would have done a full belt + bearing change a few times on your car. Have you come across such part

There are several tensioners and bearings that need to be changed, so I guess it's all right!

Okay then, Will update this thread once the work is done.
Thanks everyone for your help, specially Peter and Planet_rocker

Hi Peter
Coming here after a long time

Do you know about any website selling Fiat Palio spares?

If not any website any seller in UK whom i cam pay through a bank

I am looking for all engine belts, tensioners, bearings , water pump , ac compressor

Tried with a Fiat service center but they too were very reluctant in giving answers and i am not sure about the age of the belts which are available in the open market. Also prices of original spares have almost doubled in last 6 months

Try Ebay....!!
I like to use Fiat original belts and related parts, that I buy at a Fiat dealership.
Sometimes, when I need a belt for another make, I insist on Gates belts, they are as good as original.
(Btw, no need for specific Palio belts, all 1,6 Fiat engines are the same, unless it's a GM version...!)

Hi peter
Not only belts, I will also need tensioner pulley and bearings. Getting parts from a FIAT dealership is very difficult. Almost all find excuses to service a Palio.
With engine belts and pulleys I want to be double sure of their quality and date of manufacture

Rikhav,

Again, no need for specific Palio parts, all 1,6 DOHC Fiat engines use the same belts, bearings and tensioners.
You can use parts from any Fiat/Lancia models that use the 1,6 engine.

Okay, now i got it :)
Will keep that in mind while trying to source parts

Hi Guys

Reviving a very old thread started by me.

I had almost given up on my car, was on even the verge of selling it.

The engine belt issue was still pending.
AC had stopped working
Brakes had lost all the power
Electrical issue (Headlights, Front power windows, central locking would stop and start at its own will)
Suspension overhaul needed
Could not find someone who could confidently do it. For some reason, all good garages in Mumbai were shying away from doing any critical work on Fiats. A.S.S. had already left us high and dry since years

Then for some reason, I thought to give one final try. Then I came across one garage called R.S. Motors who had a team which earlier worked for Fiat Authorized service centre.

Got the brake issue and belt changes done from them and they have done a quiet a neat job. Only regret was I could not upgrade to Advernture brakes which have bigger discs. The garage said Advernture OE parts are hard to come by. I thought since i am changing basically the whole brake setup except for brake booster, it would have been a good idea to change to Adventure brakes.
Anyways, not a big issue as my car runs only in city and speed never exceeds 70 kph

The electrical issue cropped up again after getting all the work done but luckily i have got a temporary fix to it :)
I need to whack the fuse box located under the dashboard on drivers side a little and all works fine

A week ago i came to know about this website called www.99rpm.com which sells parts for Palio, siena, punto and liena. Its an India based company and one of its kind because there are hardly any online sellers in india for car parts. They are selling FIAT parts which are as it is hard to find in the market. Owner is very helpful

I plan to do a suspension overhaul next ordering parts from 99rpm.com.
Following is the list of suspension parts. Please help me if i have to add anything

Tie Rod End
Lower arms (Control arms)
Anti Roll Bar Bush Kit
Front struts
Front Strut Rubber kit
Suspension Pads
Rear Struts
Rear Strut Rubber Kits

Not sure if i need to change the following
Coil Spring
Camber Bolts
Knuckles

Next would be tyre change and body repaint and headlight change with bulb upgrades

Hope after this it will be a peaceful journey with the car for atleast next 3 years

Have advised the owner of 99rpm.com to stock Brembo discs and brake pads for Palios , Puntos. He said he is looking into ways to import them at a competent price

Thanks Vijaycool, Surya and Peter for your invaluable help

Most parts are inexpensive and easily to be found on Ebay...!!
Don't use the aftermarket Brembo discs, they are crap made from recycled steel.
Again, Ebay is your friend to find better discs ( or try www.mtecbrakes.com )
For pads, use Ferodo.

Hi Peter
Hope all is well with you and your car

Brakes are already changed. Fiat India OE discs and pads are used (TVS-Girling) I guess makes for Fiat India.
Another Palo owner told me that pads and discs from Bosch India is much better then Fiat India OE Pads and discs

Peter, I always thought you use Brembo discs on your car and hence thought it should be a good after market addition

No, I don't use Brembo anymore, they last only a short time, before they reach the min. thickness.
I use Mtec discs instead, together with Ferodo Performance pads, great combo!

Okay, will try to use them next time there is a need for change of discs and pads

Thanks again Peter

Also, can you advise me what i need to check underbody ? My car will be 10 years old in few months and climate in my city is hot , humid and dusty

Brake hoses should be replaced after 10 years ( almost nobody does this, but as a safety means, I always do...!!).
Check for rust, and if you spot rust, use any brand ( penetrating) ML, or a good metal primer.
After drying, use underbody coating, but don't use it to much, only a small layer will be enough.
