Hi people, i have a palio 1.6 s10 2002 model and the car is in perfect condition but the problem that i face is that the car is overheating very quickly... the temperature gauge shows more than half when the car is used only for 200 meters after a cold start.... If i driver the car at 70-80 kmph without slowing down for traffic, the temp gauge shows only quarter the level but if i slow down and reduce gears, then the heat goes more than half... and when the heat increases, then fan starts to reun and the heat comes down, again the car heats up and the fan comes up and cools down the engine... the coolant level is correct and the radiator is recently flushed up... The car acctually runs like a air cooled engine and not like a liquid cooled engine... have any one faced this problem, is it a common problem in palio? Please hallp me out to resolve this problem... all the sensors are working fine and no error codes...

hey santosh... i have been facing similar problems with my Fiat Palio 1.3 multijet... i bought this car in Apr 2008.... didn't notice the problem in summers till Nov 08, when i had the air-con on most of the time...

now it gets overheated by temp gauge reaching 3/4 without air-con or and in bumper to bumper traffic.

The car has been checked for air/water circulatory blockage.. thermostat switch been replaced under warranty, electric sensors, circuits being checked that is not triggering the low-speed fan to switch on even when the water temp reached more than 100 degrees celcius...

despite making numerous visits to the service centre... the problem persists....

this is very annoying as the car was not even an yr old when the problem occured... could it be a manufacturing defect??

i think santosh... this could be a common problem in palios... even i am confused how to proceed with this problem...

I dont think its a manufacturer defect as many others dont have this issue... I think it might be some issues with the radiator, because the car cools when it is driven, so it cools down with air flow which is AIR COOLED... but the LIQUID COOLED engine with the radiator seems to be the issue...:bang:

This could be quiet normal too. Engine temps at around 100-120 is normal, when a/c is off and in hot climate/low speeds etc.if u turn the a/c on, this will lower the temp instantly. I have noticed this quiet a few times with my palio 1.2, but it's quiet ok as in most of the cars, the engine operating temperature would be around this or above, and the temp meter shows up above half in short drives in almost all cars i've driven.

m using palio 1.6 GTX, 2002 model from last 1 year, i have the same problem. i asked some service centres. they said it is normal in any Euro 2 car.

I dont think so dude, my friend's GTX is not having that problem and the car has done 72k on odo...

I have a 2003 S10 , i never have this kind of heating.

Suggest flush the radiator, change the radiator hose ( 1200 INR)

I hope this would solve the problem

Apart from heating, are you also facing problems such as irregular engine rpm, irregular idle,less-than-normal pickup etc.

Hi Santosh
I am havin Palio ELX 1.2 I used to have a same problem. once i have i checked with work shop they have changed thermostat volve but no recovery.Once we have found after two three attempts in work shop
it was a problem with gasket and Head. If any of the valves in the header expanded then this problem will occur so show it to mechanic and make the header properly repaired then this will solve your probelm.

Phani.

Thanx Phani2223,

May i know how much will it cost to get the gasket replaced?
Also i get white smoke from the exhaust.

When are you are getting white smoke from the exhaust? If you are getting it after a cold start especially in the mornings, that is just water vapour and the smoking should stop after the engine has warmed up.
If you are getting continuously along with a burnt smell, that means engine oil is getting burnt in the combustion chamber along with the air fuel mixture. Engine oil getting into the combustion chamber indicates your piston rings are not sealing well. This could be due to the piston ring-bore tolerances have gone bad.
Looks like your engine block is due for a overhaul.

Due to the design of the rear exhaustdamper on the Palio 1,6-16V, it stays rather cool, and so it will smoke a lot white water vapour....
Only after a (long) fast drive on the highway, the exhaust end will reach a temperature where it will stop smoking white fumes....!
Right now it's winter where I live, and our Palio is constant smoking, it even starts again after a long fast run, when you're driving slow again in the city.....

Dear Santosh,
The cooling fan has a thermostat. Please get it replaced. Your problem will be solved. Also in all the fiats the electrical cooling fan is also connected to the A/C system. So the fan gets turned on the moment you turn on the airconditioner. This happens irrespective of the engine/external temperature. You need to be worried only if the engine starts to loose power when the overheating occurs..So, Cheers to a happy driving experience(y).
Regards,
Dr.Ravi
