Technical Palio 1.6 overheating

Technical Palio 1.6 overheating

Suppose the thermostat is jammed closed, even than it's impossible to overheat in such a short time.
And most thermostats will stay more or less open when they fail, so overheating is not possible at all....
So, even the thermostat is a weak point on these cars, I don't think it's the problem here.

The Palio is very important to purge the cooling system to eliminate air in the hoses and galleries of the engine block ...if it is overheating, also consider the possibility of head gasket to be damaged.

Hi,

I have a Palio 1.6 bought in Apr 2009 and done 12K till date. After the 3rd service, am getting this overheating problem. It goes upto 3/4 on the gauge at slow-speeds and with A/c ON. The fans are working properly. It once touched the Full (Red) level in the gauge and I immediately stopped. After that it has not reached full, but goes to 3/4 in slow speeds. Do I need to worry or should get it checked up?? Can somebody help?

check coolant level when the car is cold (preferably overnight). top up if necessary. if possible do a radiator flush.

get it thoroughly checked by authorized service center in your city.

Apart from heating, are you also facing problems such as irregular engine rpm, irregular idle,less-than-normal pickup etc.
Hi

I have a palio 1.2 ELPS bought in Oct 2001, the day it was launched. Till date there were no problems. Just about a month back it started give overheating indication, that too i realised when the AC was getting cut off and when I showed a local mechanic, he mentioned that the radiator needs cleaning. After that also the problem persisits. For a few days I observed the behaviour and realised that this was erratic. The needle whenver it went up also came down after some time or immediately. So basically there is some sensor/component malfunction. Just given to Fiat service centre in Pune. They seem to be on a replcement spree. It seems that is how companies earn from a car even after selling it eight years before. So they will milk me, and let me see if the problem gets solved or not, else i will take them to the consumer court for charging me for a problem solution and but not fixing the issue.

Unless you were forced to leave your car at the FIAT Service Center, you won't have a case at all in court
The car is 8 years old, you brought your car there yourself....!!!
Just an advice for the future: have all appointments written down, and pay only what was agreed.

Guys, as per as i know in Palio petrol needle stays at 1/2 always. And in Palio Diesel it stays at 1/4 mark always.(y) When we are driving in bumper to bumper traffic that time, because of strain engine temp goes up, that's the point when it is higher than 1/2 in petrol and higher than 1/4 in diesel. The Moment it reaches to certain temperature then second fan kicks in and cools of the engine, that's the reason we see drop in temperature. If we are running car with AC second fan kicks in automatically.

If behavior of your car is different than this then it needs a check, Possibilities which i can think of are,
1) Second fan not kicking in. Sensor mal functioned
2) Water pump/Coolant fan failure
3) Air-gaps in radiator/coolant

@shivmathur,
try BUB in pune, i found those guys very trust worthy. Off course you spent little bit more. But you buy peace of mind by paying little extra bucks.:slayer:
