Palio 1.6 AC Compressor

Hi,

I'm from India and own a 2002 Palio 1.6 GTX. The car has served me well over the last six years, but it seems like I have now run into a problem:

The air conditioning on the car became poor and died out altogether, while on a highway run of about 350 miles. I should have switched the system off, but with the sweltering heat, I continued to run it - possibly damaging the compressor.

I got the car checked and was told I would need to recharge the gas (R134), which was done. However, with the new gas in the system, there was no cooling occurring.

I'm told the compressor has failed and it will be difficult to find a replacement. With summer setting in in the Indian subcontinent, it will be torturous to drive around without air conditioning...

I'd like to try to source the compressor from local manufacturers (Subros & Sanden?), if at all they manufacture it here.

My questions:

* What is the make/model number/capacity (in cc) of the compressor on the 1.6? Any pointers on how I can source it?

* If OE is unavailable, can I fit another compressor into the car?

* How much is a new compressor likely to cost?

Thanks in advance!

Angry Re: Palio 1.6 AC Compressor

Hi ,

I am from Chennai, i've just hit the same problem with 1.9DELX.

Iam told the compressor may be available at the Tata service centers currently handling Fiat service. But i guess it going to cost a bomb approx 30K!!!

I am told that using third-paty compressors, will not solve the problem as there may be an issue with mounting/aligning the compressor.

Let me know in case you come up with something.

Kenneth

Re: Palio 1.6 AC Compressor

It's a Nippon Denso AC compressor, so maybe a Japanese car dealer can help you!
But it's stil available at any Fiat dealer, or AC service shop (somewhat less expensive)
