Hello respectable forum members.

As the topic state's i am currently restoring my Granddad's fiat 600 1962 model. This car is very rare in my country and it is currently impossible to find any new/used spares which ultimately forces me to procure items from elsewhere i.e EU/NA region.

The car has a few issues like the water pump is toast, gear slippage. The mechanic is a very experienced old fellow who himself owns an abarth 1966 so i am looking forward to some major restore for hassle free driving experience.

I am looking for some reliable(and cheap if possible) spare parts retailers offering competitively priced products based in EU as it saves me lot on freight charges. Please recommend me some retailers.I know restoring classics is no easy job and is expensive aswell.I can buy complete engine overhaul components for like $350 here(for modern cars) but for a classic i can only but a set of 4 pistons :( .Though the car is currently managing well on the stock pistons but i think they would definitely need replacement sooner or later. .

Please share your experience if any with onlne retailers like

And yeah i now No pics=No justice.I will shoot some and post em asap.

Atm i have pics of my rusted water pump only so enjoy ;)

I have found eBay to be as good a source as any. I have bought a few parts from the USA but freight is very expensive. www.ebay.co.uk has proven to be as good as any. Some parts from Israel and Malta and the Netherlands. The advantage with eBay is it's easy to shop when you know what the postage is. There is certainly no shortage of parts for the 600.

Car 2nd gear slips. Its is possible to procure transmission repair kit or gear syncros?any lead guys.

Water pump is rebuildable, 2 bearings, spring-loaded carbon seal and a gasket used to be available from Fiat dealers, so might be available aftermarket.
e,g, www.fiat600ricambi.com that you mention has 2 types of water pump listed, also one of the two bearings and the seal (they call it a 'clousure') listed.

The second gear fails to engage.there is no noise just nothing happens,i found some gears on ebay de and will try to procure them asap.Atm got the waterpump working somehow but will be replaced soon as the rotating wheel is rusted badly. So a new pump is the only solution.Getting parts is hard as none are available locally so importing em from various countries.

I think it would be better not to order gears until the gearbox has been dismantled and the 2nd gear problem identified, e.g. could be a selector fork problem.

Re: Water pump, Not sure what you mean by 'drive wheel' is rusted. If it's the drive pulley on the outside driven by the fan belt, this might not come with a new pump? So need to check.

Have you searched for parts in Egypt for example? Also, there was a supplier of parts for older Fiat models in, iirc,Turkey? I've tried to locate this supplier but failed unfortunately, I do remember being very impressed at how many parts they had available for old models. Have you sought out any other owners of classic Fiats elsewhere in your country, any car clubs etc., They might be able to advise you on parts suppliers.
