I'm looking for an alternative engine for a fiat 600. It's been 25 years since I fully restored my first goat 500 I'm oz, and I'm doing one in Sri Lanka now but need a reliable engine. Or are there modifications that can be made to the existing engine to improve reliability. Please help. Thanks

hello friends

continuing with the brakes

the caliper are fiat 124 front and rear

Hi Diluppo,

I swapped over to 124 calipers on my 850, and had issues because the calipers are wider than on the standard 850 coupe. Although the disk rotors are interchangeable between 850 and 124, the pads on the 850 are significantly thinner. The problem occurs when you put the car on the road and turn the steering wheel full lock in either direction, the upper control arm interfered with the brake hose. You definitely don't want your hose whacked by the control arm!
My solution was to relieve the control arm locally and reinforce behind it to ensure that the arm retained strength. I also changed the brake hoses to a male screw thread so they screwed directly the caliper.

Cheers, John

I really had no problems with the brake calipers front of fiat 124
use brake hoses fiat and made the threads in order to fix it in the original position of 600.

Incredible work man. Truly exciting and I'm looking forward to following along. I just got my hands on a '64 600 and a five 903cc engines and will be doing the swap plus extensive body widening and air-ride, which will be interesting, LOL!

Can you email me a few pictures of the Abarth radiator shroud you built?

Regards-
Jason
