Not every member knows everything about every Fiat so there's no need to be rude, as to how much it's worth - how long is a piece of string? It's worth as much as the person who wants it is willing to pay - as said they're very rare so there's no frame of reference for anyone to refer to to even make an educated guess at it's worth. If you want to take it on as a restoration project go for it, if nothing else it'll be an interesting journey and I'm sure there'll be someone out there interested in buying it once restored to it's former glory.

If you insist on someone taking a stab at a rough worth, fully restored and in working order, I'd hazard a guess at around 10-15k, possibly more.

Edit: I found an advert from 2009 someone selling one for $6,000 - http://www.vintageeuro.com/classifieds/item.php?id=64

Oddly enough we saw one in a collectors' car rally in central Italy in September. It's a nice enough little car, and obviously rare, so you might just find someone who specifically wanted that model but when all's said and done - it's a Fiat 850 - can't imagine it would be worth more than 6000 pounds or so and a lot less if not immaculate.

I agree - no need to be rude! If you don't know the answer to your question, why expect everyone else to?

A car like that is worth exactly what someone is prepared to pay for it on that day. There won't be any ready reference guides.

In concours condition the only way to find the value is to sell it. I would guess 6k - 10k if it's perfect AND you have someone willing to pay that for it.

Re: 1970 FIAT 850 Sport coupe racer by Bertone

Boy that WAS rude. I'm new to the forum, just stumbled onto it today.

The model is known as an 850 Racer here in the states. They came with black vinyl over the steel roof here. They look better without the vinyl. I think we got around 100 or so here in the states, not many around now. I've seen prices ranging from $6,000 to $14,000. I don't see anyone paying $14,000 for one though.

The long answer is, yeah it's worth restoring.

Re: 1970 FIAT 850 Sport coupe racer by Bertone

There is only a few hundreds produced must of them to USA, in Europe is very rare, and in USA most of them is lost by corrosion.
I have one in bad state, like impossible mission, i like the car, i tried Italy for parts, and anyone have, some parts have bought in USA from lost cars.
In Portugal I Know 10-12 Bertone Racer Berlinetta, some of these are incomplete.

I was STUNNED that car didn't sell! $7K was a fair price for that car, it was far from perfect. Actually $7K is a bit generous in my mind.

Re: 1970 FIAT 850 Sport coupe racer by Bertone

I belive Bertone built about 4000 (3641 +763) 850 Racer, 850 Berlinetta Racer and 850 Berlinetta Racer Team. So about 3% of the Spider production. Most went to the U.S. (2890). I have seen slightly different numbers, but in the same region.
Worth saving, but probably not going to get the money back if sold...

Re: 1970 FIAT 850 Sport coupe racer by Bertone

I traded a guy a rowboat for one here near Yosemite, CA. It is all straight, has some rust, but nothing I can't fix, and according to the previous owner, a mechanic, just has a flat cam.

I went to a junk yard near the park and bought a 1970 850 Spider for $15. The junk yard owner (83 years old) was surprised I wanted it. The too was in shambles and it was absolutely filled with ground squirrel poop, to the top of the doors!

I flat-bedded it home and started shop vaccing out the poop, then started hitting solid objects buried inside the waste. It was like digging for treasure! I found three engines, three radiators, aluminum racing heads, racing carbs, and dozens of other parts. There were gasket kits, pistons, cranks and tons of badges. All in all, I think the car was being set up for racing.

Strangely, the squirrel poop seems to have preserved the gear. Quite a find for $15 and a row boat. I will be posting the 850 Racer build on this forum.
