Hey all, me and some mates are after a little camper van, been looking at a few.

came accross the fiat 900e, pretty much fits the bill spot on, ideal 900cc for cheap insurance decent MPG sleeps four.

I've never bought anything like this before so i have no idea what so ever what to look for what it should have etc.

being an old fiat though, my main worry is rust, will it need welding for every MOT?

what about reliability?

any comments would be great!

I had a 1972 850T Camper. Great little van, but.......

It was too slow - cannon fodder for trucks on the motorways, but a 900 should be a bit better. Won't be a ball of fire though with all that weight to lug around, so make sure you're ok with life in the slow lane!

The 850 engine tended to overheat due to the lack of cooling in the back - not sure whether the 900 is any better, but assume not, and get ready to lag the fuel pipes to stop petrol evaporation when hot.

Apart from that it's all good. Everyone loves them and you always get let out at junctions!! Get a good solid one and it won't need constant welding - mine was spot on, and had no rust.

thanks for that info, very good!

doesn't sound too bad then, a slong as it will go along at 60 and not slow down too much on hills i don't mind, i'm on the look out for one now, need to sell a few things first though

Hi mate - just saw this one and thought I would add to it - I once made the intelligent decision to go in Inverness in my aircooled VW T25, which I have rarely managed to get to go over 60 mph, and that has a 2.0 litre engine. It took 12 hours from Leeds to get there including 2 stops to fill up and a couple of rest stops and was a bloody nightmare. I have been in a 900E years and bloody years ago :) - I can't remember if they do 60 mph? Do they?

BTW, I'd still have one even now, but I've never seen one with little or no rust but they get attention off absolutely everyone, without having to be blinged up
