My Polish Fiat 125p '71

Hi There!
I would like you to introduce my Fiat called "Dirty" - it is rare in a past-democratic countries Polski Fiat 125p. Very popular in past-communist countries such as:
Poland (in past PRL)
Czech Republic (in past Czechoslovakia)
Hungary
and african countries mostly Egypt.

My car is from 1971 with classic look (chromed grill, door handles called scalpel), classic Italian engine - 1300, gearstick in steering wheel etc etc more on wikipedia

In Poland, there are lots of folks who love their's fiat. In Wroclaw/Breslau we have own miniclub of Fiat 125p

PS. In Summer I'm planning a journey with my fiat-o-collegue to the motherland of fiats - Italy.

Looks fantastic :-) in the 70s and 80s 125p was imported to the Uk firstly as Polski-Fiat and then as FSO 1300 and 1500. Good luck an your Italian adventure I drove my 1983 Merc to Stuttgart last summer and visited Mlada Boslav when I had Skodas touring thhe Factories is always great.

I don't know whether I should admit to this, but I used to own one about 25 years ago, a 1979 1500cc model.........

It was actually a reliable car, but with incredibly heavy steering. We sold it on to a young woman - who was a wagon driver

(Reminds me of a Lada main dealer I knew who over-inflated the front tyres on all their demonstrators.....)

Oh wow, what a blast from the past. I had a polski fiat 125P back in 1980. Built like a tank, a great solid car & many parts were interchangeable with the Lada.
Even the handbook was brill, mine had a complete wiring diagram as well as some info you'd normally only find in the Haynes manual. Even had twin chokes, one knob opened the butterfly, the other (I believe) squirted more fuel into the carb (judging by the pic on the knob).
Really comfortable to drive as well. I even knew a farmer who preferred the polski to anything else.
I even had a set of 'town and country' tyres especially for the harsh winter driving. They were remoulds & I paid about £20 for the set.

Great to see these cars still running. I don't know if anyone can remember an edition of Top Gear on TV where they asked viewers to nominate their old cars to have them brought up to date by the programme. The winner was a Polski Fiat (or Lada, can't remember which now), but they gave it to Lotus to redesign. They completely modified the suspension, but didn't radically alter its stance, painted it black with a silver stripe, like the Lotus Sunbeam, and fitted a Guy Croft 2-litre engine putting out about 200 bhp. They re-furbished the inteior, keeping it largely original but with competition seats. Before, it was slow with its 1.2 (or 1.5) engine and handled like a Rhine barge. After it could be slid around at will with the power and handled like an Escort RS 1800
What an incredible machine.

It was lada - now i'm looking for a brother-model of a Polski Fiat 125p - a 125 Special model (U can see this model in Spielberg's "Munich" - in the "hotel_bomb_sequence")
