Our local Co-op garage just had a re-fit.

It no longer sells Texaco petrol but now stocks some "green petrol" stuff. This I think means it is watered down with something of vegetable base.

I have read stories of reduced economy and even damage to engine components from thee fuels

Any knowledge in our Club?

It might have ethanol in it - brewed from wheat or something similar? I thought that was standard practice now - I think Total had an ethanol free version but not sure if that's the case.

The common biofuel additive for petrol is ethanol (alcohol). Some cars fuel systes can be damaged by it. "normal" petrol can contain up to10% ethanol. Check the label on the pump and your owners handbook. Another issue for cars that don't get a lot of use is the ethanol absorbs water. For well used car this is good as it absorbs the small amount water in the system and than goes out the exhaust. In low use it's bad because it absorbs water from the air, sits in the system and can cause corrosion.
