What's the one car you've owned that you miss the most...?

A lot of people on the Forum seem to have regrets about cars they've previously owned, which they now -- with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, and a rose-tinted rearview mirror -- regret selling.

So... which car that you once owned are you most sad about parting with...?

To kick things off, although I loved my first car -- a 1967 VW Beetle 1500 -- I wasn't that sad to see it go: even though I'd replaced so much of it, there wasn't actually much left of the car I'd bought. The Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts that followed on were a lot of fun -- especially my Mk1 Mexico (which I only regret because of the prices they now fetch...) -- as was the Isuzu Bighorn 3.1D I sold before getting into FIATs.

You'd think it would be the Supra Turbo (powweerrrrrr...). However, this evening, I suddenly found myself looking at 1990s Audi 100 Avants (estates). I had three of the things in reasonably quick succession (as I used to drive 30-50,000 miles a year); and they were fabulous! In fact, the best drive of my life was a 500-odd mile slog up to the north of Scotland: moving from motorway, to dual carriageway, and ending up on nice, winding country, and then coastal, roads. 2.8 litres of sheer fun; and the best of the lot was a lovely, deep metallic green, like the piccy below (perfect for hiding in a forest of Scots pines...!). And they were the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Oh well....

Why did I sell them? Well, because I'd buy them with a few thousand on the clock, and then get rid around the 120-150,000 mark. Just about run-in by then.

I've had a fair few cars I've regretted selling.

One I miss the most was a fiat Maria..just a basic looking car but it was reliable...
2.0 20v engine.. a wolf in sheep's clothing..

I regretted selling my MK1 Focus 2.0 Ghia for a Grande 1.9 M-Jet, that turned out to be no where near as dependable.

Lovely question, difficult to answer.

Choices:
1981 Fiat 131 Mirafiori 1600 ohv auto
1987 Panda 750 Fantasia (45,000 miles/2 years - yes really)
Seicento Suite (1.1 aircon, bought new, 85,000 miles/3 years)
2003 Punto CVT auto

To pick one, I think I'll go with the Mirafiori.

Having still got the bottom one, I feel your pain (especially the top one...).

What great taste you have in cars, though...!

I would have 'liked' this, were it not for the fact that I never liked the Focus (I owned too many Escorts in my youth...). Sorry....

The MK1 Focus is a classic! It's the car that turned around the family car segment from dullness to interesting.

I would never have used the word interesting in the same sentence as Focus. Unless prefixed with "un". Comfortable, handles well, easy to drive, but not interesting.
Conversely, you could use the opposites of all four descriptors for some Fiats, but still we love them. Perhaps its us.

Re: What's the one car you've owned that you miss the most...?

It's all context, and time.

I loved my 1982 Land Cruiser, it was a true revelation after the dangerously unreliable Land Rover I had previously. Imagine, an A/C that worked, a radio that worked, an engine that didn't keep blowing up, light power steering, total reliability, door and window seals that kept out the desert sand.....

And then the little Uno that I owned, what fun that was in its day, or the 2003 Doblo.

I loved them all, but they all had to go when their time came.

That's the thing about cars, unless they are very very special, they are ultimately just white goods, for me at least. If they work I can love them, if they don't, I hate them: easy really

Re: What's the one car you've owned that you miss the most...?

My Punto 85, was a great car and had all the factory options too. However I lost the will to live with it due to an engine failure. With hindsight I could have easily got it back up and running for a lot less than my current car cost me and if I still had it it would be hens teeth rare there was only 400 on the roads at the time. But an electrical fault with the injectors lunched the piston rings and I'd already spent a hill of cash on it, was extremely annoyed with it also had new car cash burning a hole in my pocket so off it went.

My favourite was a 1970's NSU Prinz. 600cc air cooled - 2 cylinder - no distributor.

Dead Simple and Dead Reliable.
