ok, this is something I have been thinking about for a while. I have always wanted a nice, sporty, but classic car. Something for the weekends and to tinker with.

Always loved Porsche, something in the design and poise that gets me going. Never even driven a Porsche, though we had a couple at work. Anyway, I really like the 944, has anyone here ever had experience with one?

The only major things I am aware of are clutch expenses, other than that its not TOO bad in terms of maintenance and work-though I appreciate its still not cheap.

I have seen lots at reasonable prices, my budget is low/non-existent right now, but one has cropped up in Leeds for sub £2k, LOOKS nice and advert reads well. I wont be going for it, but its an example of one that I would when I have the money. I would go for the 2.5 Lux model, preferably one that's had a new and improved clutch fitted so its never a worry, and a recent full service.

If anyone has ever owned one, I'd love your feedback?!

not a 944 but a nice(I thought at the time) 924
unfortunately 12 months later it had near bankrupt me.
I think first thing I had trouble with was the wiring in the engine bay, alternator to battery to starter was all corroded.
then I had an issue with rear drive stubbs stripping the splines out of the vw beetle rear drums, I think I did twice until finally sorted.
the exhaust dropped off and I had a janspeed fitted and fitters had to attack it with blow torch and sledge hammers.
then the clutch exploded on a roundabout, got money towards it from warranty as my half was well over a grand (nearly twenty years ago) garage had it over a week (must as dropped half the car)
both front calipers seized up.
windscreen surround trim flew off
and that's all the stuff I can still remember.

id suggest joining a forum or local club and buying a known loved car, they can get expensive very quickly.
