Renault Megane or Citroen C4

Anybody know much about these generally? Looking to get a 1.6 5 door family job. Stilo is fun but time to grow up. Any advice appreciated.

Re: Renault Megane or Citroen C4

for the family i would say go with a focus

although i did have a go in a c4 vts the other day and it was fun

got to consider how easy it is for parts to be pulled off, scuffs etc

Re: Renault Megane or Citroen C4

I learned to drive in a megane diesel (both the big arse one and the previous shape to that)

They both went in for steering column problems but the old model shape one is still on the road today with 350k on the clock, unsure about the big arse one as that also got sold but unaware of whereabouts

It was alright

No personal experience of the C4 but TG magazine and the TV programme rate it highly, they did have one for a long termer in the magazine, dont think it cocked up other than usual niggles

Re: Renault Megane or Citroen C4

Well I have got one positive comment and thats the C4 has a very nice smooth ride . Unforuntatly the rest of the car is a bit crap, gloove box handle snapped off without any rough handling .

and i'm not been a biased fool, its just that there are better choices for the same cash.

simple fact is focus is better, so is astra, so is mazda 3, so is golf/a3/leon, so is corolla, so is civic.

if it was my time to get a boring family car and i was buying new or nearly new i'd be buying a kia ceed. you may laugh, but if you go and see one you'll stop laughing, it makes the c4 look ugly and feel cheap.

C'eed gets my vote too, quite Stilo-ish to look at from the side. Not great in any partiular area but good in most / all. And that Warranty is exceptional.

I agree with much of this (not the Astra). I had the fortune to test drive the Pro-Ceed for our company cars. good car, not great but a good car. My only issue here is that I might be forced to take it to the dealer who is also a Fiat dealer and so puts me right off. No problem with a Kia whatsoever. There are a couple of 07 meganes/C4's at a very good price locally thus my interest.

Trying to find people who have exprerience with them.

Re: Renault Megane or Citroen C4

Well the Megane rides a bit better than the C4, but the C4 handles better. C4 has a bigger boot and is roomier but the Megane has nice little storage areas in the the interior (like a decent size glovebox for starters). If you are looking at a 1.6L I would go for the diesel.

Focus is probably a good choice also, as is the Golf despite being overpriced. Mazda 3 is another good one. Don't know about the C'eed, we don't get it over here. Supposedly good, which makes a change from the crap they dish up here. Corolla if you want another piece of whitegoods, reliable but otherwise dull. Astra is just another piece of GM rubbish.

Troy.

Cheers Troy, have had a diesel for last three years (Stilo) and just fancy a bit more refined driving for a bit even if performance is about to suffer.

Frankly in a 1.6 I think C4 the diesel feels more refined than the petrol. But I would suggest you take a test drive to see for yourself.

What about the Fiat Bravo?

Troy.

I test drove a Bravo in April and waited in the showroom for over 30 minutes to discuss options. The salesman came back and said 'sorry, I forgot all about you'

Fiat don't produce a car that would ever see me going back to a Fiat dealer ever again unfortunately.
