Saxo Vts

Finally got a chance to drive one today from a local garage 52reg. And what a let down was no where near as fast as people make out not much faster then my punto. And now that has left me confused on what car to buy as I thought they would be fast enough for me.

Re: Saxo Vts

What about a Zetec-S because i wouldn't mind one maybe tuned a bit or an ST but it depends on your budget.

Re: Saxo Vts

7.5secs 0-60 is quick for a hothatch.

you drive a mk2b sporting, standard your car does 0-60 in 9.3secs. even if it was remapped with a mint intake and exhaust it would not be able to do it in 7.5secs, no where near. a vts would leave you for dead, 1.8secs difference is a hell of alot.

hell, even my car is faster than yours and i cant keep up with a VTS.

Re: Saxo Vts

Sure it wasnt a 1.4 Furio with a Vts bodykit? My daughter had one. The Vtr has disc brakes on the rear wheels, the Furio doesnt. Vts is quite quick despite its very poor build quality.

Re: Saxo Vts

The thing with the small French hatches is not really about there out right straight line pace, but how good the chassis's and brakes are as standard.

You just have to look around any trackday in UK and see how many Saxo/106's are used as track day toys, there is a reason for there popularity and its not just being cheap to buy, cost is one thing but to have fun you need a good base on a track.

This is one area where you Punto would not be as good, otherwise you would see more of those on trackdays as they are comparably cheap to buy.

OK I had a series 1 106 Rallye and loved it so probably a bit biased, but I would not hesitate to have another one.

Saxo's are also extremely lightweight.... dangerously so for road use but acceptable for track use with a roll cage / crash protection.

there not as quick as the paper figures make them out to be, the punto mk2 hgt is on paper a second slower than a vts, yet in loads of vids and real life, they beat the vts every time

either the vts isnt a 7.5 sec to 60 or fiat are very conservative with there times.

also my schui can cream a vts, yet iv got a paper 0-62 of 8.5

work that one out? and that was standard not re-mapped and inducted.

remember a punto sporting re-mapped is 120ish bhp and the saxo is 120bhp ish, so there would'nt be much init, much closer than 1.8 secs thats for certin

Rubbish the safest car on the road is always the one not in an accident, so it can be a light as you want

People are far to concerned about how safe a car is, as with most things influenced by advertising and clever PR. Manufacturers were getting hard times from always advertising cars on how fast/sexy they were, so then they concentrated on safe and dull it was, now they have done that to death its all about economy, and low tax bands.

The buying public should focus more on being a better driver and having a higher awareness of whats happening around them in terms of other road users, conditions of roads and hopefully avoiding accidents making them ultimately the safest they can possible be irrespective of car they are in.

I've got a Starlet GT, no where near standard and even when it was, FTO's are incredibly slow
