Renault Clios....

are they prone to spontaneous ignition?

One down the road's just gone up in flames... thought it was valdalisim but think the bangs I heard were the tyres popping.

Can only have parked upto at most an hour ago.

Re: Renault Clios....

Isn't there a car that's prone to setting itself on fire as standard? Seem to remember it on watchdog.... sure it was clios.

Re: Renault Clios....

it was corsas which spontaneously combust, the clios have bonnets which open on the move. my driving instructors clios air con exploded not long before my test apparently. i ended up in a petrol clio instead.

live wire insulation gets damaged by the holes and shorts out against the bodywork. Then either the battery could explode depending on type, or the wire will get hotter and hotter, eventually causing the insulation around it to catch fire, then cause other flammable items close by to catch fire aswell - before you know it, burnt out clio/corsa/saxo.

Similar to this clip. Not really a short, but his wiring is too thin for the current load - same effect as a short - wiring heats up, starts to smoke, insulation catches fire...

Re: Renault Clios....

IIRC, the Mk1 V6 Clio was prone to spontaneously combusting too, but not sure why.

V6 engine the back, quite a lot of heat, sets fire to interior trim or something with the heat

Bit of Googling points to a "wiring fault" causing it. Quite impressive (if it's not your car )

Don't get me wrong... despite being fire-trained, owning 2 fire extinguishers, and a flame-retardant suit and gloves - I wouldn't have peed on it
