Ford KA

The new Ford KA shown in this weeks AutoExpress has to be least imaginative use of the Panda platform yet.

Anybody who has been waiting for the new KA must surely be getting their deposits out for the 500 now.

Looks like a mix of the new Clio and Twingo, not a good look in my book

Re: Ford KA

I was going to put those pix up, but decided not to in case it frightened the younger viewers.

Fortunately it's still only a 'predictive illustration (a guess) by auto design house Poblete as to what the ford ka might look like. As usual Auto Express have tried to make it sound like this 'is' what the ka will look like, but (fortunately) its only a guess.

Ford have said that they can make the handling and chassis dynamics and driving experience better in the Ka than you get in the 500. That's probably because Ford know they can't make the Ka look better than the 500 no matter how hard they try.

Re: Ford KA

Those aren't official photos... just artist impressions!

Ford have yet to release anything on the Ford Ka so it's still a mystery what it's going to look like.

Look carefully and the entire side has been constructed from a Corsa-D and the back from an Astra.

Re: Ford KA

The spy shots in the link give a fairly good idea of the final car. The "Verve" connection at the front is certainly evident.

Re: Ford KA

What is certain is that autoexpress and the like will love it to bits, and then slag off the 500 saying its an overpriced Ka!!!! Just wait, they will say it. Also, it will almost definately handle better than the 500 and the steering will be more direct, but who cares when it looks like that and has a Ford badge on it

Re: Ford KA

I thought the Fire/MJET/TJET engines are actually created by Fiat?

This KA pretty much uses the lot!

500 looks nicer, I know where I'd be going.

Long live the original KA though

Re: Ford KA

I seriously doubt that driving dynamics are at the top of most buyers priorities in this segment. I'd suspect that the cheeky charm of the 500 will win more customers over than the kinetic design language of the new Ka. Where Ford does score highly is the breadth of their dealer network, reputation for affordable motoring through relatively modest servicing/parts costs and their perceived reliability. If Fiat gets it's dealer network more customer focused then it has a real chance of sowing the seeds of brand awareness and loyalty amongst a far larger audience than it has been able to reach for over 20 years. I really think they have a chance this time as modern consumers are now more than ever swayed by good design and are willing to pay slightly more for it. The personalisation possibilities on offer with the 500 coupled with the relaunch of Abarth as a brand in it's own right are perfectly aligned with this trend. I just hope that Fiat can keep up the momentum by launching other desirable cars. The Bravo is a good start and the possibility of the rebirth of the Lancia Fulvia is another promising sign. It's all good thus far
