Lucky daughter!

Replacement keys are expensive, and a little difficult, which has contributed to a reduction in car theft.

Hopefully the key you have is the remote control one, as these get even more expensive and complicated. Most cars come with one remote and one non-remote, although owners may advise there were two remotes.

Firstly, where is the other key?
The car was supplied with two keys. Private owners who only have one driver in the household will put the spare in a safe place, then forget to hand it in when they sell the car. From the previous owner details, send a self-addressed and stamped jiffy bag to them, asking if they have it. It may well arrive in the post soon after. Without the paid jiffy bag, some will not bother.
If the car was a company car or lease vehicle, the spare may well have been kept by the lease company, so a similar enquiry there may well bear fruit.
Even if it was a finance repossession this option may well work, but find out first. Giving your address to someone who has had their car taken away, and they still have a key for it, might encourage them to repossess it themselves. A work address or that of a friend or relative might be useful for the jiffy bag.

Many Timpsons branches can clone a key, so can cut a blank to fit the lock, then copy the microchip inside so that the car thinks it is the same key. That would be the next cheapest option.

Next option is to order one from the dealer. They order a key, pre-cut, then there will be an additional charge to program it to the car. They will program both keys, and effectively unprogram the lost key, so if it shows up later it will still of course open the doors and turn the ignition, but won't start the car. It could later be reprogrammed giving three.

Might be worth talking to ponsaloti. Or do a search through the forums, there are other locksmiths who have posted occasionally.
Or a local search in your area may find an auto locksmith with advice and a good option.

Don't ignore it though. Losing the one key will bring so much more expense and grief than any expense on getting a spare now.
