Depends on the fault. Many transient errors don't result in a light unless they occur a number of times. Some hard errors don't light as they will wait until service time. Yet others will cause a light which will then go out if the problem disappears.

The fault codes recorded are the best information that the ECU can supply from its limited view of the world. It doesn't necessarily directly see the actual problem (e.g. something like a wet air filter), but it may well see the result (for that example it would see restricted airflow downstream of the filter)
Interpreting the codes is where the clever bit is... see what you've got and report back. There's plenty of knowledge to tap in to on the forum to help you on the way.

Disconnected the maf sensor today and the car runs loads better tried cleaning the sensor but still the same should i try cleaning again ?

* 10 minute clean MAF with Isopropyl alcohol
* left MAF for 30 mins for Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to evaporate give the bag a good shake
