500 Key programmed for another control unit

Hi,

So, I will try to tell all story from the beginning.
Went to local Fiat dealer in LV and ordered new key. They ordered key by VIN. So received key didn't fit, then Italian guy rechecked and find out that, on this particular car, that all locks were changed. How lock are replaced with control unit. So question is - is it possible to program key (which is programmed to another control unit, not blank key) to program to control unit what I have now?
How I understand from local "hackers" it is possible to program blank key to control unit, but this key is already programed to old control unit. Or how to delete all info in key to make it blank key? Not very comfortable to lose 400EUR .

Programming a key, even if it has already been programmed into and car/ECU/Body Computer should not be a problem. You must ensure that you have ALL keys as the programming sequence deletes ALL previously programmed keys.

Different model Fiats use different ley code systems so the new key has to be compatible with the vehicles system. (e.g Key Code I and Key Code II, etc.).

When a key is ordered via a Fiat dealer & VIN then the key will be supplied already mechanically/physically cut to the correct key profile. In your case it looks like that for some reason the original keys and locks and ECU had to be replaced. This is common on Key Code I systems where the owner has lost the Master Red Key.

A good locksmith should be able to:

1) using a machine read your key chip to determine the key code system
2) get a mechanically (not cut) blank key with the correct type of chip in it
3) cut the key to the require mechanical key profile
4) program the key WITH ALL OTHER KEYS into the car

If he can't do 4) then a Fiat dealer should be able to do this for you.

I think the op has a 500 did they have the red key type system when first produced?

No Red Key is Code 1 system. Last used in 2005 on the Barchetta 2005. Before 2005 the likes of the Punto HGT (if I recall correctly) used Code II system.

Which system is it with fiat that you have to get a part preprogrammed transponder key from fiat dealer that the dealer then finishes programming to car?
Does the op's 500 have that system?

I think there is some confusion here about the OPs original question . Perhaps the Original poster could clarify.

I am not sure that a dealer could help if the ECU in the car is not the ECU the car was originally fitted with, without fitting a new ECU and programming new keys.


That is if the immobilizer uses a rolling code system, as I posted earlier I don't know the 500 system and was hoping someone else does.

Some key transponders store if they have been programmed and will not permit reprogramming. Again don't know if applicable to 500 system.
