Hi All, I have just joined the forum as would really appreciate some advice, I have a 2001 Fiat seicento sporting abarth 1.1 and need to know if it has a safe engine as the cambelt has come off it?

Thanks Monty

I believe it is.
Recently read on this forum that all 8 valve f.i.r.e engines are "safe" or "non interference"
Fingers crossed someone else will also reply.
You have very little to loose by fitting a new belt and seeing if it's all ok.
Please report back

Only the later 1.2 70hp are unsafe, or any of the 16v. So the Sei 1.1 is safe.

Don't just fit a new belt. Find out why the old one came off. Age might well be the reason, but don't assume.
Check the tensioner, it may be seizing, and the water pump, bearings may be getting tight, or loose. Best bet is to replace tensioner and pump anyway. Timing marks are simple. There's no Haynes for the Sei, but the Cinq one will do for most things.

There you have the definitive answer.
Now you know you have safe engine but a timing belt kit, belt tensioner etc
Cheaper than buying parts individually.
Or if you not doing it yourself you can be confident asking a garage to fix it for you.

Hi, and welcome to FF, :)

have a look at the guides for the cinq /sei

basically the same as the panda's also(y)

not terrible to work on..and pretty forgiving..
I would suspect a failing bearing allowing the belt to run on the camber.

worth changing the 2 x service items the belt runs on , as well as the bet itself - prices for the KIT are pretty reasonable(y)

I once had a diesel with a squeaky cambelt - garage charged me big money for a "fix" - a few weeks later the plastic shrouds were in tatters = the belt had done a good impersonation of a "bandsaw" wandering off the pulleys and slicing through the plastic.

2nd belt in 500 miles..:bang:
