Hi guys im a newbie and also clueless with cars,ive had my fiat 500 for a few months now but the engine is so loud is this normal people are saying it doesn sound right,also when ive changed gear alot of time the car judders surely thats not right? Ne advice would b much appreciated tia xx

Tracey, what sort of noise is it .. a clattering/tapping..? Or a screech ..?

It's very hard for anyone to be able to tell you what's wrong with a car that's making a 'noise', and noises can be caused by many different things.

The best thing for you to do would be to call in at a workshop and ask them. You'll have a diagnosis within 5 minutes.

First thing in the morning check the oil level, wipe clean the stick when you pull it out then replace fully and remove again note the level and colour.
Oil level is critical to the engine like our blood, too little and it takes only seconds to ruin the engine honestly. If the oil is ok then go consult somebody who can give you a honest opinion.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum,:)

when it judders , do you get any lights on the dashboard..??

that would be "electrical" - as a basic fault diagnosis

if it's short on OIL( in the engine) ,
or Water = "coolant" ( in the radiator + engine)

then that would be classed "Mechanical" in fault.

to help us understand the noises, we'd like just a bit more info,

generally they are quiet little engines, (y)

Diesel obviously having more opportunity for NOISE than Petrol;)

I got one of my repair jobs and the engine sounded awful. Really noisy. There was no oil or water. Filled both up, good as new. I suggest you check them as a matter of urgency!

Yes all done yest and its fine now just a few more repairs needed i didn know about x

This is what he wrote down x

looks like;

1, flexible section of front exhaust - new part

2, Corrosion to front suspension "bright work" - no action needed;)

3,new front brake discs will be required SOON.. not necessarily NOW

was this part of an MOT test..? as these things are normally typed/printed:chin:

the brakes should be tested for function - this may still be fine..as you've not said it failed an MOT..

so @£100 to £150 of work if they fit it.

Do you know anyone who can fix things for you? Front brake parts are only about £30! Part to fix the exhaust about £20, but you will be quoted probably a whole new exhaust , if the suspension corrosion is the top cups visible when you open the bonnet they can be left looking rough for year's.

Im hopin a friend will do.it for me xx

Here's some examples-check for compatibility!
Flexi to fix exhaust;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500-...811680?hash=item51dd662c20:g:DXkAAOSwNyFWcrsE

Or complete replacement exhaust chrome tipped; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500-...067290?hash=item4403a73a9a:g:WgwAAOxydINSXXVY

Brake disc/pad set;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-500-...hash=item3cd78c1ba4:m:m8mOiNPh_Ui7-mcjCozwb9g

So the part price is not bad but a garage would charge far more for the same parts plus fitting plus vat, that's why I asked if you knew anyone who could fit them, it also allows you to see how much more a garage may be quoting you.

Have someone show you how to check the oil and other levels, check at least every 8 weeks, and how to check the tyre pressures-an electric pump of the right type will do it all for you once set to the right pressure £25 and before having any work done maybe ask here?
