Hi - steering light is coming on on the dash board and at the same time the power steering's power is reduced massively. This is an intermittent problem.

Hi, and welcome,:)

the elderly fiat Bravo/a have hydraulic power steering.. generally very reliable

I suspect you have a 2006 to 2012 fiat Bravo - generation2

essentially a "BIG Punto"..;)

read this PAS guide - covering the very similar Electric assistance system of the punto,

same problem here, panda 1.1 2009.

I had my power steering drop out when i was on a roundabout in Bradford of all places, got it booked in monday to see what the issue is, got an EML light on as well.

When I had these symptoms in my 2001 Brava 1.2 the power steering fluid pressure sensor was leaking fluid. I replaced the sensor with a bolt and an O-ring seal: problem solved.

There are several different types of power steering depending on model and engine, so you really need to specify all details before expecting helpful responses.

They will all be pretty old and worn by now. I've changed the pump on my 1.2 a couple of times now, plus the pipework when a switch started leaking. A new / recon pump will be over £150 from memory.

I'm not aware of any warning lights on the dash for these cars.
