Hi, I have recently brought a 2002 fiat punto mrk 2 as a project car and was wondering how easy it would be to swap the current 1.2 engine out and put the punto 1.8 engine in? would this be an easy fit or would it require alot of fabricating?

Thanks in advance

If you modify your car your insurance will be far higher than just going and buying a 1.8 that left the factory as Fiat intended.

Hi, yes i understand the insurance price but this does not concern me i just wanted to know how hard it would be? thanks

sadly im with the lads on this one.

alot easier to sell your own,and buy a factory built punto hgt 1.8.

the hassle of getting a 1.8 engine, ecu, coded key from donor car that engine came from, gearbox change, another rad needed ,wiring loom etc.

and then you have to beef up the brakes, front and rear, stiffer springs to cope with new engine.

you would have to buy a hgt to do the conversion ;)

best buy a hgt 1.8,or buy a modified punto to a higher spec like a 20v.

but make sure its been done to a good standard and passes mot's/sva test.

alot of 'freds with sheds' death traps built in back gardens.

best of luck with your project what ever it ends up being

Thank you all for you advice, I have done a little more research and am going to either go with a fiesta ecoboost engine, or a fiesta 1.6 st engine depending on what fits in my engine bay. For the brakes and suspension I have already taken this into consideration and have brought brembo high performance breaks and am in the process of getting some coil overs for the suspension also thinking wheel spacers but will need to measure the wheel arches for clearance etc (may need rolling).

out of interest are you using a plug+play loom..

as the mk2 is a PIA for weird canbus stuff..

ah all info we wernt given in the first post:)

we thought you were a newbie thinking a engine swap was easy.

your a pro at engine swaps and setting up cars to high spec.

good to see your pushing the boundrys of the humble punto.

i look forward to your posts and the work involved.

not in a bad way to us fiat owners, but why a punto as a base car??

if i was going that mad and exspence id be modding a pug 205 or k1 vw gti etc.

but hay what ever works for you.
