Hi all just bought a fiat panda easy today this is my 5th fiat but i seem to have hit a problem the rears doors wont open from the outside but will open from the inside its the reverse of a child lock being on wondering if any of you loving fiat members might have any suggestions ive read the mannual 5 times and im at a loss to find a solution to this the car is a 64 reg only done 8000 miles bought it from a used car sales help desperately needed

Hi. Sounds odd.

If you use remote locking..does it actually lock and unlock..?

Still some FIAT warranty left..??you can transfer it for a small fee.

Hi its central locking the doors lock but when you come to unlock the back doors wont unlock its like a child lock is on but its the reverse of a child lock im beginning to wonder if its some sort of dead locking system its the first car ive had with central locking with a remote must admit im puzzled ive had a panda before when they only had one wiper on them ive just exchanged an honda jazz for this because i prefer fiats the honda jazz didnt have remote control when i used to lock it if i turn the key twice it was a like a security double lock im wondering if theres a simlar sort of feature on the panda

Its possible. My 2004 has 1 lock..and no remote..so yours is quite different.

As I said..enquire about the 3rd year warranty..could save you money..

Although a fault would normally effect just 1 door.

Sounds to me like a problem with the rear outer door handles. The Grande Punto was notorious for having the outer rear door handles fail, potentially the same issue. Have a search in the Grande section for related threads and see if they can provide any pointers.

Good idea...

Lindacrook open the rear door
USe a screwdriver..EVEN A KEY to latch the lock mechanism..on the end of the door..PIVOTING HOOK

Use the inside door handle to release the latch..

Reset the latch then try the outer handle

thanx for the reply always nice to know theres advice on here considering the car still has some warranty left on it im going to try and get to a fiat service centre as i have found out that it would not pass an mot with this problem on it apparently since 2012 the all doors must be able to open from the outside if i had realised this i would not have bought it but since there 8 month warranty on it ill c wot can be done

Hi all just to let you know managed to get to a fiat service centre and apparantley this can be a common problem with the reactors on the rear doors so hopefully harriet the panda will be sorted out next week
