Hi folks
I have a 2004 1.1 8v Active and my engine has died.
I am going to replace the engine but my question is do any other engines drop straight in without mods.
Ie what year nanufacture 1.1 engines drop in.
Does the 1.2 drop straight in and if so what years fit.
Looking forwards to hearing from you guys cause Im lost.

For straight swap your best choices are another 1.1 Panda engine, or a late 1108 Seicento with the multipoint injection. Otherwise at least some parts will need swapping.

The Seicento crowd seem to enjoy fitting the 1242cc engine so they will probably have the most information if you want to do that. Advantages include more torque, disadvantages include that it is then a "modified" car and may struggle with insurance/resale value.

hi,:)
the basics are the same as any FIRE up until @2008

so - what happened..?
as they are pretty tough..

Define 'died'

D
Overheated warped head..had it remilled put it back together and that slapping ticking noise is there.
Checked all the shims 1 was slightly off...replaced it...no dif.
Now at the point I would rather replace than waste anymore time chasing ghosts.

Wife cooked it and warped head.
And after puting it back together it had more issues than vogue.
Beyond chasing shadows now...just want to drop a new donk in to it.

What area are you in and we can keep an eye out for any replacement engines ?

Breakers in Rugby has a 1.1 active in for breaking and are due in a 1.2 Eleganza also.

Forgot to mention the 1.1 ECO version. It's the same but different. Simpler to go for non-ECO version (with the square oil filler cap) if possible. Not sure what year they changed as both engines seem to have been available at the same time for a while.
1.2 ECO version also may be awkward, so best avoided if you want a simple swap.

When you do find one,
A) check the core plugs while it's out and change if necessary.
B) check the sump carefully - if it was weakened but OK in the car, it may fail after having the whole weight of the engine on it.
C) change the timing belt and water pump if necessary.
D) check/change the clutch.

All much easier to check/fix while it's out.

How many miles..??

So we know if you want a great low miles engine..or just a quiet runner.
Charlie
The dead engine had 55,000 on it....the car is in great shape so another donk and it will do the Mrs a couple of years.
Thanjs

Superb info mate thanks for taking the time to reply.

eco not fitted until 2009
thing with these 1100 engines they sound big endy when they arent, so i would be wanting to hear it run before fitting, irrespective of mileage
i would think the 1242 engine might not work well with an ecu set up for an 1100
final thing is i once gave my mot man a siciento 1100 because it had a low mileage engine and he was fitting it in a 1242 punto,he had problems with exhausts etc so be careful
consider buying an insurance write off for the donkey, its what i always do

An engine with worn valve seats will make less tappet noise than one with correctly set tappets. Check the cylinder compressions and oil pressure. If all are ok you could well be replacing a good engine.

always better to actually see / hear it running

a rusty mot failure of an 1100 sei should be driveable to yours for @£100:)

then throw your old engine in the boot, and you still get the same scrap weight;)
