Just to say hi. I normally fequent BMW forums as I am a BMW dismantler based on the Surrey / Sussex border.

my little cherub is 17 next month and yesterday, I purchased her a 2008 500 Lounge in Bosanova white. It was the best I'd seen (some right hounds out there) and is a very clean car.

I've always said, old fashioned forums are the best font of knowledge so whenever I buy a car other than a BMW, I join the relevant forum. So will be looking for info on regular faults etc.

Thanks in advance

Hiya, welcome! I hope your daughter enjoys the car! :)

This is a very useful forum and hopefully it'll serve you well! As for faults, keep an eye on door handles, washer jets, and the wiring for the rear hatch. Those seem to be among the most common faults!

Thanks. So the same as any other car in the main? :)

I've done few 500 handle hinges and this car already had a pair in the last couple of years. The issue seams to be the alloy casting with a steel pin and no lubrication. The two metals react and freeze the hinge. I always lubricate the new ones before fitting.

As for tailgate wiring, I've recently repaired the tailgate loom on a 2006 535d touring BMW for a customer who had been quoted £3.5k for fitting a complete new loom!!! I also had a 2011 320d saloon in that you could not open the boot due to broken wring at the hinge. BMW deleted the key lock in 2008 and with no through load? Its completely impossible to get into the boot. The owner was just about to take an angle grinder to it! I managed to get the boot switch out and supply an earth to the switch to pop it open. So I'm well versed in that one as well. (y)
