Hi I'm Steph,

I'm new to all this so apologies if it doesn't make sense!

My car battery keeps losing its charge, I have bought 3 new batteries and they all lose power and die. I am a new driver only been driving for 6 months and I have a telematics box on my car for my insurance, however I recently got my insurance providers out (Monday 16th) as the telematics box was wired wrong and was causing the drain. My car was fine all week up until yesterday, the battery had drained again and I had to be jumpstarted. I have had diagnostics done on my car and nothing is showing up. Any ideas what it could be?

It's driving me round the bend my car isn't reliable at all and I feel sick whenever I stop and start because I never know if its going to start up! :confused:

I am open to any suggestions.
Thank you!

Hi, and welcome,:)

it's probably some Part of the car not shutting down electrically,
this GUIDE will help;

Call out a auto electrician it could be a faulty generator (alternator ) or a constant drain, if you know what you're doing you can connect a meter to check the drain between the battery and load pulling fuses until it goes suggesting what's wrong with a particular circuit, don't worry it's a simple if time consuming fault to find? These things happen to any driver not just new ones.

Hello and welcome to the forum :wave:.

I would say the overwhelming probability is that your problem is in some way related to your telematics device, either because it is still causing a residual current drain, or because they have disturbed something else when fitting or modifying it.

The logical next step would be to have the telematics device removed completely to see if that fixes the problem.

Two causes of current drain that have cropped up on Honest John are:
Interior light circuit fault - the light goes off but the delay circuit continues to draw current. Check by manually switching the light off and see if this fixes it.
Not locking the car - unlikely one this unless it is garaged, but apparently some cars keep some of their electrics running until the doors are locked.
Hope you get it sorted.
