journey through europe with the ducato swift royale motorhome

Hi,

We are setting out on a journey through europe with the fiat Ducato swift royale motorhome 540 from 1994. We started in UK, we are now in Holland and setting out to France, Spain and Bosnia. We are still getting to know the vehicle, and looking for tips from experienced drivers.

We are learning about the electrics: can the car battery be drained from the radio when the Campervan is on hookup? How to charge the leisure battery? These are the sort of things we are still learning...

Michiel and Leanne

I am not familiar with your model but if you buy a cheap multimeter you'll be able to run some simple checks to ascertain what is being charged/drained and when. If the battery is on charge it will be reading around 14v. By the time it gets to 12v it is flat.

Thanks Mohojo! I connected it to a battery charger and it appears to be full and able to charge. There must be a problem with the connection in the electrical system....

Meanwhile we are using the car battery for water and lights, but it's a bit tricky because you never know when it runs out....

You can do all the necessary checks with the multimeter. Look on Youtube for advice on how to use it.
