Just purchased my first Fiat 500, its a dualogic and a 2012 model. Always used a manual car, so all very new to it ( had it two days!!).
Finding it great, ( driving as an auto ) l live in a very flat area, so not tried hills. Noticed when driving at it gets to fifth gear, it docent come down unless l press the brake??? Normal?? So going up hills from fifth gear, will it go to a lower gear naturally or???
Got other questions, but writing this first, as don't want to 'head for the hill's' then find the little tiddler cant make it because lm doing something wrong!!

May sound a silly question or worry to some if not all of you out there, but too me, its a BIG WORRY
Thanks to anyone out there who can help

You can test if your gearbox is working correctly but rolling a long slowly in 5th and flooring the throttle, if it down shifts, it should do that on hills too.

If not, you can switch over to manual mode.

perfectly normal. my advice? when going down hills put it in auto and sport mode so it downshifts earlier. if not, you will need to downshift manually, which is what i do tbh as i dont like going down hills in high gears like most autos seem to do.

If you're driving the Dualogic in manual mode, it'll tend to stay in high gear unless you press the brake, yes. So you'll struggle to go up the hill unless you manually shift down.

In auto mode, the Dualogic gearbox will automatically downshift as soon as it senses the car is slowing down when going uphill. On my one, it tends to downshift a bit too aggressively for my tastes, thus reducing fuel economy. These days I mostly prefer driving my Dualogic in manual mode.

[edit]
Just noticed I now have the same average fuel economy as ahmett! (y) :D

Thanks 44sunsets, still not gone up a big hill yet ( Lincolnshire UK) but plan too next weekend, so will test out and let you all know how the little tiddler gets on!! Mind you, must admit, lm really enjoying the car, its so much fun to drive.

Well, folks, did it, went up a very steap hill early this morning, the little 'tiddler' did well, thought l would try just using the fully auto aspect, but ready to use the gears should l need too. But no, the car, went up and went down in gear as l would need too in a manual. Coming down, yes, did tend to stay in fifth gear unless l used the brake, but coped okay.
Thanks to all who took the trouble to give advice and possible actions needed to cope with my worry of hills etc.
This site is fantasic, its gives all, a chance to help one another in so many ways.
Once again, thanks all.
Be back soon with further questions, lm sure!
