hello i just joined the forum my name is mark richardson I live in indiana i am retired from GM going on 60 yrs old and bought my first fiat.. a 1979 124 spider.. which is why i joined.
I hoped to be able to gain a little knowlage about the car. currently i am changing heads and intake to get rid of some of the emissions.
i do have a first question about the tappet shims or where would be a good source? any info would be greatly app.

Hi Mark. I have a '79 which I enter in shows. I have had the car for 37 years. If you change the head beware that you might wind up with an interference engine (a broken timing belt will ruin the valves). The '79 has a non-interference engine. I removed all the emissions stuff and put on a larger carb. I gained at least 30 hp. The '79 is a good automobile but like all sports cars it requires a little fussing. The five-main-bearing engine is almost indestructible. For parts log into the Fiat Club of America and go to Ricambi (Italian for parts). They can supply just about anything you need. You made a good investment. With the new 2017 124S coming out the value of the older Spiders is jumping up.
