the stop-start never works.
3 times we have took it in to be checked and every time they say the battery needs to be charged .
this week we went on holiday and did 475 miles.
guess what still wont kick in.
should i insist on a new battery? or what.

Welcome to the forum.

Was the battery a new one 3 years ago (was it a new car?)
I think these cars are very fussy on battery voltage for the stop-start. A colleague has battery trouble with his 500 and the replacement battery (for the stop-start) was horrendously expensive.

My stop-start (on the 1.6 multijet diesel) is mainly not working, and when it does, it only stops for about 30 seconds, then restarts. I haven't got a high capacity (read "cost") battery on my car.

Over the years, dust has accumulated around the stop-start switch, so now if I switch it off, the switch sticks, so I don't even get the error message on the dashboard.

Trust me, you're not missing anything with not having stop-start.

When doing a limited mileage, as in short runs, the battery won't be fully charged enough at times to allow the stop-start to kick in. Likewise things like outside temperature, air con activation and a host of other things will disable the stop-start. The best way to find out is to get the car hot, then connecting the Fiat diagnostic setup to it, as that will tell you exactly where the problem lies - the stop-start errors aren't stored (or at least they aren't in my car). Hopefully, the Dealer has done this already..........
