Hello everyone, This is my first post so not quite sure how things work. I have a 07 Grande Punto 1.3 Diesel The starter does nor turn when I turn the key. Everything else light up fine, but the glow plug indicator does not come on, and the radio stays on. (normally goes off while the starter cranks) This happened about eight months ago and after 10days or so the problem disappeared(I am usually able to park on a hill and bump start)
Since then it has been 100% reliable until yesterday.
I have checked the battery, fuses and relays, and tried a new ignition switch. Could the problem be with the key? Can anyone advise me

I've just had something similar on my daughter's '56 plate Punto (petrol). If yours is the same, the earth strap goes from the battery to the stud on the body, but then it carried on to the gearbox to form the engine earth. In our case, I had taken all the terminals off and cleaned and greased them but it made no difference. It was only after I fitted a new starter motor that I accidentally pulled on the end of the engine earth strap (just under the stud for the body earth) and the cable just snapped in my hands! It was heavily corroded INSIDE the heat shrink sleeve - toally invisible from the outside!

A £4.99 generic earth strap from Halfords solved the problem in about 10 minutes!
