Hi I have a Punto active.Today when driving it started to make a noise from under the bonnet,It sounds like fan blades catching but it only does it while driving in gears 1 2 and 3 4th is fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

1.2 punto 1999 - 2005..only a 4 speed g-box..??

sounds like it's the gearbox..!!

:idea: keeping the speed constant.( @20 mph) change into 2 , 3 or 4 and see if the noise changes much..,

then you'll know if it's the actual GEARS - or just a rotating noise.. wheel bearing / driveshaft, etc..,

the gearboxes are common, and relatively cheap ..so not a disaster if it needs another good used one..,
